I believe this is our highest rated recruit in the history of the program.. or in the history of people assigning stars and such...

Ethan Thompson signed his NLI to be part of Beaver Nation.
I know it's not a big surprise but It's always nice to move past the verbal and on to being signed.
Looking forward to this addition. Things could be really good in the next few years.
Go Beavs!

I LOVE that Ethan Thompson has chosen to come to OSU, but I believe the title of highest rated recruit goes to Charlie Sitton. One service's National Player of the Year, Charlie Sitton.

I believe Brian Jackson was higher also... at least had a much more impressive list of schools we beat out for him. Talk about hard luck guy...

No kidding. THREE head coaches in four years. Brutal. Add to that his injuries that he played through. Kid was a warrior.

Yes, Charlie was national POY in 1979 I believe (or was it '80?). Getting Ethan is huge, though. Very excited for our futyre!

I think Brian may have been top 10 nationally. 6'10 kid with great skills, athleticism, sweet stroke and attitude, but tiny feet that goofed up his balance and contributed to nagging injuries. Talk about missed potential. He, Phil Ricci and Nick Dewitz and Cuic were tremendously gifted big guys who played for lousy coaches here in the late 90's, early 2000's. Berween poor coaching, tough injury issues and in at least one case some head issues, those were 4 guys talented enough to play in the league. Along with uber-headcase CJ Giles and the tough journey for Eric Moreland, in the last 15 years or so we've actually had a number of very talented bigs. Wish that they all could have had Tinkle for a coach!

Over at Basketball-Reference they do a composite of all the rankings from each recruiting service by year. He averaged 71. But again, like all rankings - grain of salt- that was also pre-Rivals/Scout, etc... Dunleavy Jr was actually the highest ranked in state recruit that year and played in the McDonalds AA game. Is interesting to go through the various years and see some names I had long forgotten. I think it's tough to judge ET based on the schools that offered. I think a lot of people backed off knowing where dad and brother are. www.basketball-reference.com/awards/recruit_rankings_1999.htmlNo mention of Mike Coakley.
