From reading their Twitter feed, Pivec and Tudor had solid debuts EDIT: From osubeavers.com"The Beaver freshmen made their mark in the contest, as Kat Tudor hit a trio of 3-pointers on her way to 13 points. Fellow first-year Mikayla Pivec finished the game with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks." Gulich had 19 rebounds, and Breanna Brown had 12 points

I was at the game. Here are a few comments...
* Starters were no surprise. Wiese, Gulich, Hansen, Orum and McWilliams. Of the new players, first off the bench was Pivec, followed by Tudor and Thropay. Washington came in only at the end of the 2nd and 4th periods. I suspect Washington needs to work on her defense. Green didn't play at all. I suspect she will be used only in certain situations this year, where we need some strength in the middle.
* There was a lot of the running game in the first half. Not all breaks had successful finishes, but it is clear that this team has the athleticism now to do it, thanks to the new players (primarily Tudor and Pivec). We took advantage of a lot of turnovers in the first quarter, but NNC cleaned up there game as it went along. We didn't do well in the 2nd quarter, after ending the first on a 100 pt pace. There were a lot of missed shots...many right around the basket. Free throw shooting was poor... but got better in the 2nd half.
* It is clear that we are missing Ruth Hamblin for defense in the paint. NNC got up shots that Ruth would never have allowed. Most of their scoring, however came from the outside on wide open looks. They are a good shooting team when left open and had a few athletic players. Still, we out-sized them considerably and should have been able to do more damage in the paint than we did (though we did better in the 2nd half).
* Gulich pulled down her 19 boards, but didn't show as much offense in the paint as I was hoping to see. She needs to take care of the ball better and not rush her shots underneath the basket. Bri Brown looked pretty good overall, but also missed some shots right under the basket and made one really bad pass right to a defender.
* McWilliams didn't make much of a mark in the first half, but did a better job in the second with some nice drives and kick-outs. Tudor looked good shooting from the outside, particularly on her last made 3, when she showed the quick release that has been talked about pre-season. Kalmer had a nice game and made a couple really impressive plays, one a nice pull-up jumper off a break and the other a super quick move around her defender, passing underneath to a wide open teammate for a layin.
* This team has the potential to be very good. They've got some time to work out the kinks. No highly ranked opponents until Pac-12 games start... which is a bit worrisome (you want them to be tested and ready for that kind of play), but I think that it may be a net positive given the development that is needed.
