Back in the 70's and 80's they used to play countless exhibition games against Pac-8/10 schools. Had a pretty good squad. Then would always give their religious witness after the end of the game to anyone who cared to stick around. As I recall, they were a pretty good squad and by no means just an easy walk-through game.
Don't hear about them so much any more.

In 2003 the NCAA banned exhibition games vs. non-college teams.
Besides AIA, there was always some Australian team, or some small national team - like Iceland. I loved those games, because it was a great way to see extended minutes for newer Beavers.

Don't hear about them so much any more. Yes...they usually had 2 or 3 legit former D1 guys. I remember "Rocket" Rod Foster from UCLA playing for them one time. A solid organization/team comprised of pretty good, mature players. There were some teams that beat top 20 caliber college squads, so the contests were good preparation for the counting games that followed.

Lorenzo Romar made a few plays down the stretch (I think beating Darryl Flowers) and AIA won.

Too bad they can't be a preseason tune up anymore. Bad decision NCAA. Then again not really shocking.

I liked the year that the USSR team came in the late 70's or early 80's (I think Steve Johnson was on the OSU team).

I liked when OSU played AIA - they played good, clean, hard basketball and it was not a forgone conclusion you were going to win (I seem to also recall a year where we didn't win, and I don't think it had the "lose to WOU and then go on to have a decent season effect" either). My girlfriend (now wife) and I had season tickets to OSU MBB during most all of my 11 years of gradual, uh, graduate school, and AIA seemed to be a preseason game several of those seasons.
They would also spread an uplifting message after the game, which whether you agreed with or not, their sincerity and belief was never in doubt.
It's in keeping with trends today that the NCAA would take issue with the whole deal.
Go Beavs!
