There's no doubt that the worst game so far this season for Beaver fans was the game at Colorado. OSU down 37-6 at half time...lose 47-6.... and, it was COLORADO for pete's sake! I mean COLORADO.
I was just watching the WSU/ASU game to scout the upcoming enemy and the announcers were mentioning ASU's dismal offensive showing in Boulder the previous week. That led to me looking at that box score and looking a little more at what Colorado is doing on defense.
Colorado leads the Pac-12 conference in total defense and is second only to UW in scoring defense. At home, they've given up 7, 7, 6, and 16 points. The 16 points ASU scored came on a short field TD after a fumbled punt and 3 FGs of 50+ yards.
As bad as the stats looked for OSU in Boulder (14 first downs, 228 yards, 3.1 yards per pass, 31% third down conversion), ASU's looked worse (*7* first downs, 199 yards, 1.8 yards per rush, 17% third down conversion). Seven first downs in the entire game.
ASU is not a world beater this year but the real take-away here is that there is a reason Colorado is tied for the lead in the PAC-12 South and defense is a big part of it.

They could have easily been 0-9 in conference instead of us. I saw no indications that Colorado would go bowling this year, let alone challenge for a division title (I'd still be pretty surprised if they win). But, there they are with a pretty decent defense. Winning games legitimately. McIntyre is still a douchebag, IMO. I guess their success should be a nugget of hope for us next year. If they can turn it around from 2015 to 2016 like they did, why not us from 2016 to 2017? |

I see it this way... there is a lot of ball left, right now they are riding a wave of confidence against some pretty bad teams (Pac12 is down more than I thought), McIntyre is a douche, this IMHO is a fluke season, and means Colorado keeps him around longer... to me a good thing just as Mora sticking at FUCLA, Helton at USC, Graham at ASU, Rodriguez at Zona, Dykes at Cal... even MH at whoregon. The more douche/questionsble types coaching opponents is a good thing! Lol |

I guess their success should be a nugget of hope for us next year. If they can turn it around from 2015 to 2016 like they did, why not us from 2016 to 2017? Whether or not Colorado is as good as their record indicates (and as each week goes by it's getting harder to deny that they are), there is zero doubt that they are improved! It's hard to say at this point if OSU is headed toward that level of improvement through the rest of this year or next year. My optimistic side and my observations of the improvements I see in this team from last season and throughout this season leads me to believe it certainly could happen. I've heard a couple of the Pac-12 TV announcers say that OSU this year reminds them of Colorado last year in the sense that you can see the Beavers displaying the right attitude, never giving up, and (most importantly) doing a lot of key things right. I'm not sure what motivation the announcers would have to prop up OSU and they do seem genuinely encouraged by a lot of what they see. One of them (Yogi Roth, I believe) said that he thinks Chris Petersen and Gary Andersen are the two best coaches hired in the PAC-12 in the past 5 years. Some Beaver fans, as is their nature, will argue against that at this point but looking at Andersen's past, looking at what I see happening with our team (especially the defense), and looking at the other PAC-12 coaches, I think it's a very valid opinion. |

They are also 4-0 when Liufau has started and completed games. What would UW's record be if Browning had missed 4 games already? CU is 2-2 with Montez the freshman backup QB at the helm. The backup beat US and hole, couldn't keep the lead at UM and lost @ USC by 4 going 25-40 for 62.5%. Imagine our starting QB putting up those kind of numbers. He actually did, identical numbers in fact @ Minnesota 25-40 62.5%, we lost by 7.

Both of those QBs might have completed 60% of their passes, but both averaged less than 10 yards per completion, and around 5 yards per pass attempt - which is not good. Browning only completed 50% against us, but averaged over 10 yards per pass attempt. Way better day on the field than either Montez or Garretson. And I STILL don't see anything in Colorado's 2015 season that indicated they could even hope to be contenders in the south this year. |

McIntyre took over a 2 win San Jose State team and by year 3 turned in an 11-2 season. The two losses: a 3 point loss at eventual P12 and Rose Bowl Champion Stanford and to 16th ranked Utah St.. GA was 3-0 vs McIntyre in Mountain West. McIntyre is 2-0 vs GA in P12. N interesting side note, in the MWC Mac was 2 years behind Andersen in rebuilding, the script is flipped now GA is 2 years behind Mac in the P12 rebuild however OSU was in much better shape when GA stepped in that what CU was when Mac took over. |

Their two largest margins of loss were to #3 Stanford by 32 (10-42) and to ASU by 25. In comparison our largest two losses so far this year are by 41 points to CU (6-47) and 24 points to UW (17-41).
