Was this discussed elsewhere?
If true, that would be a big blow to Utah.

Was this discussed elsewhere? If true, that would be a big blow to Utah. Read rumors for about an week+ in several places. If true, the new "era" of college athletics will soon make the older guard cash in their contracts, pensions, etc. WTF would anyone want to do this job now days? It was almost 24/7/365 before. Now you have to deal with NIL collectives and their people, recruit new players, re-recruit your current players, and then research/recruit portal players. Then to top it off you have to decide which/how many of the 105 get partials (if your school can't find 105 full plus the corresponding extras). It's a circus. Saban walked, Bennett, KW? It'll only become more common.

Great job coach, much respect for all you accomplished and your loyalty to Utah.

Wow. Great job coach, much respect for all you accomplished and your loyalty to Utah. I wonder if the Ludwig issue was similar to MR here. University pressuring him to change. He tells Andy to retire/walk and look for another opportunity. Then he says "eff it".

The fact that the new landscape of college athletics has and is driving away some of the most respected coaches of all time should be the biggest red flag of all time. I once heard something about killing the golden goose

Career OC who never lasts more than a couple of years at a gig before generally being asked to move on. The last 4.5 seasons at Utah were the longest he ever lasted at a coaching stop.

From the perspective of his personality and his job performance he must be well thought of as he's "recycled" often. But, that's true of many in the coaching profession. I know, as with most coordinators, when he's had talent he's very well thought of.

The guy has been at Utah for 31 years! 20 as HC. He has seven 10 win seasons! He is a legend! I applaud him for staying, and building something special at Utah. He's 64 years old. He has enough money to live very comfortably in retirement. Good for him if he does retire. I'm sure when he is done, he will help in taking measures to ensure Utah football remains strong.

If milkdud goes to Utah, I will not longer be kind of pulling for them when they don't play us. In fact, I will hope they lose, and he gets canned in 3 years. F that guy.

There has been speculation he was going to retire the past few years. He is 65 years old, and the Utah DC has been named the coach in waiting. Reading the Utah message boards fans obviously appreciate what he has accomplished at Utah, but many of them think it is time for him to move on.

A solid, above-average coach but always a touch overrated, IMHO.
Utah has four or more losses in 11 of its 12 non-covid seasons since joining the Pac-12.
His undefeated 2008 season should have an asterisk since we were cheated out of a win by a totally phantom pass interference penalty.

He created a culture of hard nosed defenses that will kick ur ass. He's done a great job developing players from less than elite recruiting classes. My measuring stick is if my duck friends hate a team, that means they're doing something right.

The dreaded "Coach in waiting" seems to end up as a Death Blow more often than not.
