this seems logical...and therefore likely won't happen...Also seems to be what Skip Belly suggested months ago

I like a lot of what is being proposed; however, having perused the article and statements, one of the disagreements I have is the solidifying and expansion of portal and NIL, if I am reading this correctly.
Part of this expansion, proposed legislation that exempts players from being deemed employees of the universities, or the CSFL, is bullsh*t. If you are going to be paid, and the plan is to make it where basically all players get some NIL type pay, then you need to be paying taxes on the income and fringe benefits you receive, just like the rest of society - hell, even the NFL. At that point, you are no longer a scholly player. Once again, greed by TV execs, and now the players, is what is driving this.
Since they are proposing changing rules, tightening up or eliminating the portal, along with clarification of what NIL is, or was meant to be, needs to be part of this kind of change. By paying all athletes some NIL money, it is no longer NIL, it is just pay. OMMV

OMMV The part that strikes me odd is "The CSFL would apply only to football; other college sports would stay in their current conferences or return to their traditional, geographic conferences, reducing the need for other sports to travel cross-country." Other sports staying in their current conference makes no sense from a 'cross country travel' standpoint'. Football is the least impacted by travel due to fewest number of games played when compared ot other sports. Basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics, wrestling etc are still impacted by travel if they stay in current conferences. So just make it apply to all sports, or go back to historic conferences for all sports but football,, and use the CSFL for football only. Agreed the NIL/transfer portal needs to be addressed too. Currently it is out of control.

So would be better to be one of the poorest in the upper tier, or one of the richest in the lower?
That's sort of what we've been discussing for some time now.
Unless there is some reigning in of the NIL/portal s%#t, it seems like the lower tier would be better for us.

I believe it is in our best interest to make the upper tier have as few teams as possible. I don't think it will get to 32, but if it did, the next tier (OSU and 75 others) will substantially out perform in dollars the big dogs. And I even think the per school dollar number will not be that different. In a nutshell, let Texas, LSU, Michigan and Ohio State go screw themselves.

Probably be more fun to be lord of the minnows but being the smallest fish in the pond would be better for the athletic department long term.

I don't think that would be true in any short term. The product may be more fun eventually but it won't be better in terms of talent due to the pay. If the super league happened and the leftovers built a regulation/promotion league it would be tremendously exciting.

The SEC commissioner (Greg Sankey) made this comment regarding the Super League: "They want to be us, and that's on them to figure it out, not on me to bring myself back to Earth."
Not happening. Sankey, while looking out for the SEC is just going to torpedo everything and, I hope at some point in the future every school not in the B10 and SEC revolt and bring control and equality back to the entire field. Yes, even those McNeese St people that you all pick on!

Sankey's league has won the football (and baseball) championships almost too many times to count in last 15 years. Their fans pack their stadiums. They roll in money. Don't think anyone in the SEC agrees with you. I think his schools and fans think his mentality is just fine.

I don't think he's questioning the take of SEC fans, I think he's questioning the take of others outside of the B10 and SEC and the generalized impact on college football. Sankey will continue to make more and more money, until there is none.

Those who have money always look down on those who have less.
Interesting how the ratings for last year's CFP championship game, which did not include an SEC team, were markedly higher than any previous championship game including an SEC team.
The SEC is an outstanding college baseball conference, with many different programs winning national titles. It has become a very top-heavy football conference, with two or three (now four, with Texas) outstanding programs who greatly inflate the reputations of the remaining programs.

nice theory by a sports brain trust. No reality or any governing body is doing anything serious with that right now. Next.
