Whoop whoop! Great news, for all sports, not just men's basketball. This will greatly help us get an 8th (and maybe a 9th) football team, and help with the TV negotiations, if not with a combined football rights package, then with an basketball-only deal.
Not a huge Zags fan, but this helps the Pac-12 immensely so good on them.

Even if it's just basketball only deal that's still more money when added to any TV deal for football.

With the possible exception of adding Memphis as the lone team from the AAC, I have always supported a western Pac-12 and could have easily lived with a reverse merger with the MWC. I wasn't the one holding out for the Big 12, ACC or any other more-eastern conference. Not sure why you would have thought otherwise.

Not sure exactly what your angle is here. But recruiting with Gonzaga in our league won't be any different than recruiting was with UCLA and Arizona in our league.

I was referring to you god-forbid-they-let-Sacramento-State-in with the reason being that we wouldn’t be able to recruit. But I guess you’re too busy to remember saying that it would be better to look out of the area, like the SEC and Big Ten did.

But I guess you’re too busy to remember saying that it would be better to look out of the area, like the SEC and Big Ten did. We don't recruit in the same circles as Gonzaga in basketball. Not even close. Not even in the same universe. Probably the only player they have signed in the past 15 years were even had a remote chance of landing is Ben Gregg, the Clackamas kid who dropped us as an option as soon as the Zags offered. We didn't recruit in the same universe as Arizona or UCLA, either. So their membership strengthened our conference, but didn't impact our recruiting one iota. The same will be true of Gonzaga. We would recruit in the same football circles with UC Davis and Sac State were they ever to fulfill some people's fantasy and become FBS programs, much less Pac-12-worthy FBS programs. We'd be chasing 2- and 3-star recruits, and diamonds in the rough, from the exact same recruiting pool. Some of those recruits come from the Sacramento area. They might think it would be great to stay close to home, if they had a Pac-12 option instead of simply FCS schools as their only local choice. Logically, that would make it harder for us. I'm busy thinking.

Now does the pac go after other Basketball schools like St. Marys? Them and Gonzaga were the class of the WCC. Will be interesting who they have in mind. I think the Pac is looking to add more basketball schools.

We don't need St. Mary's, we have GU. Why find a lesser product to split the pot with?
