He was on the 57 Rose Bowl team, and later an all star in the CFL. Nub Beamer was on the '57 Rose Bowl team. He scored the second touchdown from one yard out to pull within 28-12. The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter in a 35-19 Iowa win. In '57, Oregon State would win a second consecutive Pacific Coast Conference Championship with a win. With about five minutes left, Nub Beamer forced a fumble and then recovered it at the Oregon State two to preserve a 10-7 win to win the Pacific Coast Conference Championship. Unfortunately, the No Repeat Rule struck a Pacific Coast Conference member for the only time. Oregon State were champs but did not get the Rose Bowl invite. Instead, second-place Oregon went instead. Beamer also played on the '58 team, which was Oregon State's last as an official member of the Pacific Coast Conference. Although the Pacific Coast Conference officially disbanded between the '58 and '59 seasons, the conference continued on unofficially for one final season '59 before completely disbanding in most sports (baseball being a notable exception). I should note that Oregon State and Stanford were trying to jockey to be the fifth team in what became the AAWU with Cal, UCLA, USC, and Washington. Stanford ultimately would win that fight. Having said that, Stanford and Washington would continue to play Oregon State home-and-away every year while Oregon State was officially independent. Beamer went on to be named a CFL West All-Star in 1962 and 1963 but was forced out of the game in 1964 by multiple head injuries. Requiem æternam dona ei, Domine!
