These are institutional decisions, so the leader of our institution is going to be at the forefront of any conversation with conference alignment.” This part seemed interesting... "Harris declined to verify reports the Pac-12 offered to cover only $2.5 million of the exit fees for any departing AAC member, citing verbal confidentiality agreements."

Thought I read somewhere that the Pac was chipping in 5 million towards each of the MWC teams' exit fees. If that's the case I could see the AAC teams having a desire to get the same treatment. Heck, they're probably tacking on the poaching penalty in to their thinking and treating it as the Pac being willing to spend 15.5 million a team for the MWC teams.
I could also see the AAC teams wanting to make sure the travel situation is equal for both sides... maybe a 14 team conference could do that?
I still am hoping the Pac and MWC can negotiate a deal where some more expansion bucks are freed up. Both sides should kind of demand the same deal the MWC teams agreed to (the poaching penalty should be a separate thing between the Pac and the MWC).
From the comments coming out of the Memphis and Tulane ADs, I kinda think they're more interested in the $$ and risk than the idea of switching conferences. Maybe something can still be worked out.
