Beavs tap into the North Puget Sound League again, this time for a promising young southpaw who is beginning his Junior year of High School. The "book" on young Burtis is high ceiling, advanced command of 3 pitches and maturity. Smooth delivery and repeatable motion from 3/4 arm slot with a fast arm. Tunnels all 3 pitches with command. Very athletic - runs a 6.83 sixty. Video on him will immediately remind you of former Beaver, Brandon Eisert. Pitch metrics are fastball with good movement that touches 89 mph with 2,313 rpm spin, Slider at 1,875 rpm and Change up at 74 mph and 1,481 rpm.Strike rate is right at 70%.
Neal attends Tahoma HS (enrollment 2,256) and plays for Head Coach Brett Jaime in the uber-competitive 14 team 3A-4A North Division of the Puget Sound League where the Bears compete with Kentridge HS, Kentlake HS, Kentwood HS, Kent-Merridian HS, Auburn HS, Auburn-Mt. View HS, Auburn-Jefferson HS, Aubun- Riverside HS, Federal Way HS, Federal Way-Beamer HS, Decatur HS, Burien-Kennedy Catholic HS, and Des Moines-Mt. Ranier. HS,
In 2024, Burtis posted these stats; App:8, IP:28, H:21, R/ER:14/11, BB:14, HB:2, K:44, OpBA:.193, W-L: 1-0, ERA:2.75, WHIP:1.25, BB:K Rato:1:3.2, K/7:11.0 The Tahoma Bears finished their 2014 season with a 16-9 record, 9-4 in PSL play. They were defeated in the first round of WIAA play by Wenatchee-Eastmont HS, 4-1. Sophomore Neal Burtis was named to the 2nd Team ALL NPSL for 2024.
In 2023, Neal pitched for The Tahoma HS Frosh but was brought up to the varsity for the WIAA playoffs. He pitched 2/3 of an inning. Tahoma HS was 26-3 (12-0 in NPSL play) and reached the WIAA final. Along the way, they defeated Sammamish-Skyline 10-0, Olympia 5-0, Puyallup 12-1 and lost the final to current Beaver Bryce Johnson and Sammamish-Eastlake HS, 5-1.
Neal plays summer tral team baseball for Rock Creek Elite and was recently named the Northwest Showcase Tournament MVP.
Burtis has an older brother Jackson that pitches for Tacoma C.C.
Neal becomes the 7th member of Oregon State's 2026 recruiting class, joining;
