To join the Big 12. That's about 16 million a year.
This is from the Monty Show from yesterday... they were stunned. Of course, today they are equally stunned about the Pac whatever developments. They thought SDSU was screwed.... I think we have a TV rights partner.

They said they're hearing rumors the CW is interested in expanding their coverage (I read that somewhere in the last couple days) and that Amazon Prime might be involved for streaming.

I would be stunned if the B-12 was going to offer SDSU over OSU and WSU. that makes zero sense whatsoever. I just don't believe it, there is a big asterisk here we are missing. If there is an element of truth, I think there is an expectation media can exceed $18million. and I know CW is eager to expand sports and OSU/WSU have the foothold. and we are open to streaming. depending on who we lure, maybe, just maybe we are back to even with old Pac dollars? Who knows. Regardless. I am pretty skeptical at this claim. Only way I see it is B12 was doing some weird basketball plays. there was all that UCONN convo too. could of been a BBall only invite?

We have 230,000 person metro area, literally. that is our CSA in the 2023 census estimates. but functionally our viewership is PDX. TV always matters, but the SDSU general TV viewership numbers are much lower than ours. doesn't matter if you are in a big market if nobody watches you. See every argument we have ever had about SJSU.

The Big 12 values basketball and hates Wazzu. I could see the Big 12 offering a half-share to San Diego State with the understanding that say Oregon State was in line to get the other half-share. I was hearing that Oregon State and either San Diego State or Wazzu, each for a half-share in the Big-12. But not enough teams were on-board in the Big-12 for it ever to happen. I bet it was something like a trial balloon or an offer to offer. An offer to offer may be more than either Oregon State or Wazzu got, though.

I remember those rumors came out not that long ago. I thought it was the usual smoke being blown around. The rumor was OSU and SDSU to the B12.
I wonder if Barnes and Murthy said, "Not without Wazzou." That is, the difference between a half-share in the B12 and a full share in the Pac wasn't worth abandoning our scruples. I'd really like to know if that's how it went down.

See every argument we have ever had about SJSU. You got a link for that CSA estimate? Not that I don't believe you, as between Corvallis and Albany alone there's more than the 97k metro size I'm seeing. I just can't find a CSA population that is accurate, everything I find points to that Metro size i was using. I used to know a site that you could pick cities and find population sizes based on miles distance from a from a city center, can't find that one any more, I'm disappointed I can't find that one either. I do see a Census Bureau listing of the Moscow/Pullman CSA being at 89K, which jibes with the metro size.

If the B12 offer was a half share forever. only ever a half share, then I would turn that down to and bet we could eventually beat that in time. because maybe at worse all we do is match that being the kings of our own domain, versus the outcasts of the B12, in a bigger conference, not as equals. I dunno. I don't know what is true in the world. I can also see us remaining true to WSU and not abandoning them. It would be a dick move.

If Big-12 offer $32m, will OSU accept and bolt to Big-12?

If Big-12 offer $32m, will OSU accept and bolt to Big-12? Famous last words... I don't think so. I think Barnes and Murthy really do mean it when they say they value a regional conference above (or mostly above) all else. I also think OSU would insist WSU be included. BUT, if WSU was included, and if the Big-"12" agreed to a Western Division containing all of the ex-Pac-12 schools, then it would be a hard decision. Still, I don't think so.
