...on rebuilding? They say they are bringing in respected academic and athletic universities.
Wasn't the idea of bringing in Boise State and Fresno State shot down years ago because they WEREN'T respected academic universities?

I think you are wrong on Fresno State, it’s known as the Paris of the San Joaquin Valley 😉

Wasn't the idea of bringing in Boise State and Fresno State shot down years ago because they WEREN'T respected academic universities? Colorado State University is only slightly behind WSU in endowment and academics in general. They are an easy peer to the standard OSU/WSU are setting. San Diego State isn't too far behind. It is only an "R2" because it doesn't offer enough PhD programs. it meets on all other measures of spending and research activities. Boise St and Fresno St? well... yeah. Good thing they throw the sports ball good. I am sure the focus of other schools are going to be much more about the overall presence of the school. The chatter all over the internet is Memphis and Tulane are targets. We will see. who knows. clearly those fit the bill of quality institutions. I think I am coming to agree the strategy is TV networks want multiple time zones and the Pac-12 is going to oblige. They are going to try and go east.

I wish the Pac would be a west coast only conference. I just personally like the cohesion of a tighter footprint and less travel for athletes but I understand the apparent necessity to go East. Likely my OCD desire to make things organized and efficient. Tulsa? OK. A Texas school? OK. Memphis? But I just don't see going beyond Oklahoma/Texas makes long-term sense for schools out there unless there is a whole other division in the central part of the country. A school back east would consider the Pac-12 a landing place until the next chance to get back to regional rivals, but I suppose every school is looking for the next landing place in the future environment.

I want us to be in a Pacific and Mountain time zone conference. If for tv, you need Central and Eastern zones, then you make an agreement with a conference that is based there.

I believe Boise State, SDSU and Fresno State are R2 universities on the path to be an R1 university, the same as us and Wazzu.
CSU is an R1 school and our academic peer.
So no, I wasn't amused. Leave the academic arrogance to Stanford.
