Definitely doesn't do any favors for baseball program Only Fresno State and San Diego State have baseball teams. The Pac-12 needs two more to remain a conference in baseball. If you play 15 games against conference opponents, you can still have a very good nonconference slate to try and balance out RPI. Or, heck, you could play Wazzu an additional three times. 18 games against conference opponents. That still leaves you with 38 nonconference games to play with.

Sure.....there are ways to move it forward, but it doesn't seem like a good fit for a national powerhouse. The non conf slate would have to be super stacked. Not exactly the same as having the pac12 and a mostly tune up non conf schedule. I know baseball is really healthy now, but these things are precarious, and potentially fleeting. That said, I trust Barnes to prioritize baseball. He has shown the foresite to understand what is important for OSU, for the most part I think. Maybe big 12 affiliate?

I think baseball will remain independent. It sounds like this year’s schedule is shaping up to be better than last years, and that’s when we were part of the pac 12.
Beaver blitz podcast that came out today also mentioned baseball remaining independent.

I wonder if there could ever be a way to have whatever the Pac ends up being, maybe the AAC, probably the Big 12, to end up creating flexible sub conferences for non-football sports.
For baseball, I don't think it does is much good to be in a conference with a bunch of teams that don't generally have great success like we've just added for football. SDSU and Fresno State have some potential, Wazzu could, if they find that next great coach like Bobo, maybe they could get good. But if Colorado State and Boise State start baseball programs, it'll take a long while to get good.
So let's say we joined forces with the Big 12, we could combine the best 8 teams from each for baseball. Same with men's and women's basketball, softball, whatever sport it is.
You could have two different levels, still have heavy scheduling partnerships between each conference and within each conference, but actually develop really strong strength of schedule for everybody.
Or is that ridiculous?
I'd rather have an 8 team Pac/Big 12 baseball conference with Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, the Arizona schools and others like that than be forced to go independent or be forced to slum it with a JUVO level Boise State startup for 2 decades.

Well, if that's the case, it's probly not an option unless they really wanted us......which I'm not sure they would. There's got to be a better option for baseball. Or, maybe we just have a crappy conference, and pretty much schedule all our old Pac 12 foes for non conf?

The next new member to join the PAC-6 plays pretty good baseball.
So I'm told!

It looks like at least for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Once the new conference is up and running, I doubt we will continue playing as an independent.
With so much changing in college athletics, it's hard to predict anything beyond next week.

I’m fine with more road games, especially if we are playing a great schedule. It helps RPI, and big boys have to win on the road. Sure I love Goss and wish we could play there every game, but in life everything isn’t ideal. If it helps our team, competition, image, and recruiting, I’ll take more road games for sure.

There is only 4 paths for baseball profitability that I can think of. 1) A baseball centric tv deal. Don't see that happening but if OSU offered decent quality broadcasts I would pay a subscription fee. 2) Profitable body bag road schedule. Not likely for us as we aren't currently a body bag team. 3) filling large stadiums regularly, we probably need 5000+ to hit that without significant ticket price increases. 4) Selling Merch. Three of those include a highly engaged fan base so post season success is critical.
