It always amuses me when TV covers a sold out or practically sold out Reser and the talking heads say “Everyone in Corvallis has turned out today”. I’d wager that in any average Reser sell out the percentage of fans from Benton/Linn County is substantially outnumbered by the fans coming from outside of Benton/Linn Counties. It only stands to reason, considering where Oregon’s population is centered and where OSU’s in-state alumni live. Corvallis itself is over 60K now and the MSA is 230,000. Corvallis and Albany being all of 10 miles apart combine for over 110K alone. We ain't the f%#*in' Ozarks or anything. A quick list of cities Corvallis, alone, is larger than without really deep diving: Pullman, WA Happy Valley, PA West Lafayette, ID Charlottesville, Virginia Clemson, SC Manhattan, Kansas Ames, Iowa (close here I saw another pop with Ames having 4K more people, so maybe a push...) I never said or inferred that Corvallis was in the Ozarks.

It all comes back to the stinkin' ducks.
Is there any other college dynamic that has 2 major universities in smaller towns, both relying on the demographics of the same nearby major metro area?
I don't think so, and that's the rub. This is why I always chastised casual Beaver fans for rooting for both teams, because it's a zero sum game with us. When one does well, the other suffers.
Oregon has sucked all the oxygen out of PDX, and the Beavers have been starving for casual fan support for years now, while the ducks have feasted on widespread appeal, bought and paid for by Uncle Phil.
Gawd we need to pound these f*ckers into the ground Saturday.

“Oregon State and Washington State are going to find a home, whether it’s West Coast based or nationally based, I don’t know what it is,” {SDSU AD} Wicker said. “I’d love to have them in the Mountain West because they’re quality programs, they’re great brands, and they would walk in the door and have a bigger national brand than any of the people in our league probably.
“I certainly hope it works out, at some point, in some way, that benefits us all.”

“I certainly hope it works out, at some point, in some way, that benefits us all.” That's certainly more refreshing to hear than all the latest chatter about how we're worthless. No MWC official, or MCW athletic director, has ever said we are "worthless." That's the narrative of some fans, and of some media. The people who know about such things clearly recognize and understand the value of the Pac-12 brand, even in a reconfigured format. Given the opportunity to join OSU/WSU in a new league, without penalty, most, if not all, of the current MWC would join us without hesitation. We just have to offer the invitation, which we are not yet prepared to do because we still are investigating other options.

The meme coming out of the MWC from now on is going to be, "We're done with them. Don't want them anyway now. We'll go our own way and find our own way to expand." The question I have is whether teams like Boise State and Fresno State are going to be happy that their conference is expanding by taking teams even worse that their existing bottom feeder teams. Who else is left for the MWC to expand with? I get that she's going to try to funel some extra money to the top teams to make them swallow this. But I don't think there's going to be enough extra money around for that to matter much. How does that help MWC get a better TV deal? I heard New Mexico State is available. Finally, an in-conference rivalry with New Mexico. GO..... Apologies...I don't remember the mascot for NMSU.

Just lettin' loose a little sarcasm. Always thought it interesting that the two biggest schools from New Mexico both wear red.

Much like Vegas san diego is a big city where the local college team is practically ignored. Take beaver fans out of snapdragon a few days ago and that stadium would have been quiet, real quiet. Biggest complaint from fans is seat and concession pricing. Also, for two years we didn't even play in San Diego, we played in LA. Rehiring Hoke as head coach set the program back and last year we won just 4 games and the offense has been boring for years. San Diego supports the Padres (top 4 in attendance) and the only team in the former PAC12 that outdrew us in BB was Zona. SDSU has to do a bit more to win back FB fans but I do think we made a good coaching hire in Lewis.

Pretty sure we average higher than Tony Gwins capacity. If you include the post season (we have temp seats up) we were at 3568 which is 1 person over Goss standard capacity. Do you guys ever play in PETCO? It would be awesome to fill that sucker with college baseball fans
