Florida's offense in the LV Bowl was crud, but their defense was not. Florida's defense was fast and athletic and they shut down a lot of OSU's runs that looked like they were going to break for good yardage. They held OSU to its second lowest ypc average of the season. Gulbranson played a good game with 189 yards on 17/26 passing. No picks. 1 td. Solid game against a good defense. Have zero idea where you think the 6-7 FL defense was good? #102 in Def ypp #128 in Def 3rd down % That was with their best player and leader who opted out with 20 other players. They had athletes, they were never good. Fair enough. But they got those stats against the SEC, where they were tenth if total defense, and if you watched the LV Bowl, they were fast. They closed a lot of gaps, quickly. And Gulbranson played was solid against them.

They had athletes, they were never good. Princely Umanmielen started the Vegas Bowl and was Second Team All-SEC last year. Umanmielen was projected to be a second rounder but chose to transfer to Ole Miss instead. Desmond Watson was the primary starter at defensive tackle in 2022 and started. Watson is still with the Gators. Gervon Dexter started all 12 games and started the Vegas Bowl. Dexter was the star of the Gator defense and was selected #53 overall by the Bears. Dexter is one of the Bears' starters at defensive tackle this year. Antwaun Powell-Ryland transferred to Virginia Tech after the Vegas Bowl, became a defensive end, and was Second Team All-ACC last year. Ventrell Miller was ejected for targeting against Vandy and missed half of the Florida State game. Derek Wingo started in his stead. Miller was the second-best defensive player for Florida in 2022 and did not play in the Vegas Bowl. Wingo started for Miller and is still playing for Florida. Amari Burney started the Vegas Bowl was drafted #203 overall by the Raiders in 2023. Burney is a second-string Will Backer for the Raiders. Jadarrius Perkins started the Vegas Bowl. Perkins got into a fight with one of the defensive coaches and transferred to Toledo after the 2023 opener. Perkins is starting at corner for Toledo this year. Jason Marshall Jr. started all 12 games and then the Vegas Bowl. Marshall is still a starting corner for the Gators. Rashad Torrence II started 11 of 12 games and then the Vegas Bowl. Torrence played with the Rams in 2023 and then for Houston Roughnecks earlier this year. Trey Dean III started the Vegas Bowl. Dean was the Defensive MVP in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Dean played for the Jets last year. Dean was on the Chiefs roster for most of the offseason but was waived in July. Jaydon Hill started the final eight games of the 2022 season and then the Vegas Bowl. Hill started 11 of 12 games for the Gators in 2023. Hill transferred to Texas A&M. Miller was not the Gators' best player. I do not believe that Miller's absence sank the defense. The defensive coaching staff was terrible, but that was a talented defense.
