Oregon State has added the 14th commitment to their 2025 recruiting class with RHP Tyler Bellerose from Huntington Beach, California High School.
Bellerose is 6’, 190 and will join two high school teammates at OSU in the fall of ’25, Sunset League Player of the Year, RHP/3B Ethan Porter and 1B John Petrie. The Huntington Beach Oilers are one of America’s premier prep programs led by Head Coach Benji Medure who has compiled a 239-81 record (97-23 in Sunset League play) over the last 10 years playing in high profile national tournaments and a rugged Orange County and southern California prep schedule. The Oilers are ranked number 3 nationally in the pre-season 2025 prep polls behind 2024 national champion, Corona, CA. HS and Archbishop Moeller HS in Cincinnati, OH.
Tyler played on the Oiler’s undefeated freshman team in 2022 and bypassed JV ball moving up to the varsity in 2023 as a Sophomore. He will be a three year starter for HBHS in 2025. In 2023, as a Soph. member of an 11 man pitching staff, he threw the 4th highest total number of pitches, increasing that to the second most as a Jr. in 2024. Tyler and Junior star, Tanner Brown will lead the Oiler’s large staff in 2025.
In 2022, Tyler was twice named the Orange County Register’s “Player of the Week” award. In May of ’22 he pitched a masterful game in the CIF Southern Section-Division I championship game, defeating Trent Caraway and the powerful JSerra Lions in extra innings. Tyler threw 9 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, walked 1 and punched out 9. He was also selected the “MVP” of the National High School Invitational tournament in 2023.
The “book” on Tyler Bellerose is his ability and feel for pitching. He throws 4 pitches with command. His fastball reaches 91 1mph with good movement. He throws a tight slider at 83 mph and change up at 78-79 mph. His 76 mph curve ball is considered one of the best in California. It is an 11-5 offering that breaks and drops sharply with a high rate of spin. He has a high level of extension and fast arm action that make his pitches play up in velo. His ability to move up and down, in and out in the zone to set up hitters leads to his “he's a pitcher” label. His persona will fool you – articulate, good student, big smile, soft spoken and wears glasses - almost "bookish" but his coaches say, a tough competitor.
Bellerose 2023 Stat Line: App: 11, IP: 29.1, H: 13, R/ER: 7/3, BB: 13, HB: 5, K: 30, OpBA: .134, OpOBP: .270 ERA: 0.72, WHIP: 0.87
