Anybody else watching? First two episodes revealed to me: - Rose is still cocky as hell
- No love lost between him and Johnny Bench (at least when not playing games)
- Didn't know about the sexual relations with a 16yr old (16 is the age of consent in Ohio - at least at the time). So not illegal.
Two more episodes tonight, but I would like to see him in the hall before he dies (now 81) His name is all over the MLB record books. I know lot's won't agree with that, but it's my opinion.

Never really cared until I lived in Ohio. Every now and then he’d show up on the sports talk shows and prove himself to be a real ass. Unrepentant as well. I think if he were to make to the HoF, most of Ohio would revolt. No love for him there, even though he played for Cincy.

I was in Vegas a lot from about 2017 to 2021 and a little afterwards. One winter he and I were staying in the same condo complex (Desert Rose Resort - I don't think any connection) I saw Pete maybe six times. Never said a word, but gave a small nod if we were walking in different directions. He came across as the most arrogant and conceited a-hole I've ever seen.

Being an arrogant ass does not see to exclude others from being in the HOF.

As an "enthusiast" for studying human nature, I believe his personality fired his baseball success (and later got him into trouble).

I still think if he would have came out and been contrite and admitted he was wrong, he probably would have been in by now. But, he chose to take a stand and act like he was a victim. He definitely should be in, but I think if it happens, it will be posthumously.

I've always been a sports fan who cares very little for what goes on outside the lines, so to me, it's very frustrating.
Also, my older brothers attended the same HS that Pete Rose attended, so he's basically from the same neighborhood as me - which I realize is ironically an "outside the lines" factor for me.

Apparently he used hundred of bats that day.

The New "Charlie Hustle" bio on Pete Rose is outstanding, paints a pretty even picture of him, warts and all.
He gambled on his own team, and on baseball. He is rightfully permanently banned from the Hall of Fame. There is some doubt as to whether Joe Jackson actually participated in the 1919 Series fix (yes, he took some money, but never spent any). There is no doubt Rose bet on the Reds and on baseball.

Betting on games ruins the sport because the fans will start to doubt each and every contest. It's far worse than cheating during the game because it's so easy to tank a game, and once that happens the entire integrity of the sport is in question. It's a strict rule for a purpose.
He may own the record books, but he broke the sacred trust that keeps the game relevant. The HoF deserves better. Screw him.

But, allegedly, he only bet on his team to win....

But, allegedly, he only bet on his team to win.... Too bad for him the rule says any game the player is involved in, not whether it is to win or lose. And that alleged statement has little relevance from a guy with no honor. I'm sure he would be willing to say anything in order to get back in. If this hadn't been Charlie Hustle, we wouldn't even be having this conversation; some other no name player would've been banned and forgotten. But people have come to believe that his sports ability should outweigh the consequences for his transgression. This kind of thinking is what athletes count on. They have been treated specially since they were recognized as talents, often getting away with things that regular joes don't. They know that their talent will allow their transgressions to be overlooked. For that reason, Rose should NEVER get into the HoF, not even posthumously. It's an important message that future sports stars need to hear.

The part that got me in the HBO series was just before Rose was eligible for the HoF they changed the rules to exclude anybody on the 'banned list'
Rose is arrogant as hell still but that is what made him Charlie Hustle
Betting is obviously a big deal but so is cheating (hell Astros), 'roids (hello a lot of guys).
The series also noted that if they let him in after he dies it is a major injustice. I can't disagree with that.
Let him in before he is pushing up roses...Put an Asterisk on his plaque if they want. The all time hits leader (which will likely never be broken) deserves to be in Cooperstown

He strikes me as, "not too bright," but HE KNEW what the consequences of betting on the games were. I dunno. Should he/Should he not? CONUNDRUM.
