Are we not still expecting A.J. Singer?
Perhaps Arquette is waiting to be sure than Hainline doesn't return

Can we conclude anything with the signing of Hubbard? With every transfer there is a back channel story - what prompted that signing? Some possibilities, maybe? 1. If we assume Wilson is firmly entrenched as the'25 catcher, could we then assume Hubbard was recruited to back him up? 2. With Gustafson hitting the Portal and transferring to N.D. State, that leaves Anthony Marnell as the only other roster catcher besides Weber returning. The staff might feel Marnell needs another year before he's ready to play, hence the signing of Hubbard. 3. Talt came to OSU as an OF that had catching experience. I think that ship has sailed and Easton is exclusively an outfield candidate in '25. 4. The Beavers don't ordinarily play true freshman at the cathers position, with Adley of course being the exception. Claunch, Logan, Smith and Weber were all seasoned before strapping on the game pads. Having said that, we are welcoming the Oregon Player of the Year in our recruiting class that happens to be a catcher in Ryan Vandenbrink. His "scouties" say he has advanced skills and loud tools both defensively and at the plate. Could the staff see Hubbard as an opportunity to red-shirt Ryan while grooming him for competition in 2026? 5. Freshman Martin Serrano's primary position in high school and Travel ball has been catcher. However he is also experienced at 1B and in the outfield. He may get a thorough look this fall behind the plate but Vandenbrink's presence may move him to Utility role playing 1B, OF, DH.
Several factors at work in the Hubbard recruitment but the bottom line was our staff felt they needed that second catcher next season.

Big question with Arquette - what's he looking for? Number one with Portal guys is improving their draft position, number two is NIL.
Carraway is a potential first round draft pick next year. He will need to demonstrate his proficiency defensively playing a position. MLB does not draft first round prospects that spend their final year of college ball DH'ing.

Unless Wilson improves a lot over the offseason he is not the answer. He is not a good catch and throw guy. I think I read that Wilson is playing first base this summer. First thing is we need a guy that can handle the staff, let the offense come later

2b Trosky 3b Arquette ss Singer dh Carraway Arquette is a great second baseman, but does he really have the arm to play on the left side of the infield? I know that Trosky can cover third easily.

Logan Ice did not play as a Freshman? He played in every game as a Freshman. Ice started 53 games at catcher. Of the six games that he did not start, two were the second game of a doubleheader, giving Ice a breather, and a third was a midweek game. Two of the other three were against lefty starters. I have to believe that Ice was dinged up in the other game. Nothing else really makes any sense. Ice played catcher in all 59 games in 2014.

The poster that said Logan didn’t play much as a freshman is usually accurate, but he goofed in his now deleted post(or the post was in a different thread).

My understanding was that he was at 2B because Cam Clayton was at SS and otherwise he would have been there...

My understanding was that he was at 2B because Cam Clayton was at SS and otherwise he would have been there... If that were true, though, why would the Huskies move him to second, as opposed to third? I find it hard to believe that a guy who does not have a good enough arm to play third in Seattle has a good enough arm to beat out Trosky at third in Corvallis.
