I have been a bit frustrated as it is difficult to find information on the wrestling lineup this year. The roster has finally been partially updated. Here is what I have found out. There are 32 wrestlers with most of the new wrestlers appearing to be complete walkons. Bob Coleman and Riley Jaramillo are 2 new wrestlers that probably have partial scholarships or something.
Wrestlers with eligibility remaining that did not return: Francisco Castro-Guzman, Tyler Chay, Nate Keeve, Kennen Lanteri, Ihoghama Odighizuwa, Jared Reis, Ronnie Stevens, and Jay Tovey. Tyler Chay disappearing from the roster is the most confusing as OSU just put out an article at the end of September mentioning him as one of the competitors for the starting spot at 174. Losing Keeve, Lanteri, and Odighizuwa are unfortunate as they would have been able to help a lot. The rest fall under the situation of being redshirt seniors and probably graduated so chose not return to the team.
All the other newcomers I know nothing about and they currently do not have bios, except David Henry who was formerly on the football team and a state champion at 220lbs at Scio (I think).
My predictions for the lineup:
125: Ronnie Bresser--Round of 12 last year. He should be an all-american this year if all goes well. Kegan Calkins the backup and he could be starter for quite few D1 teams. Calkins will provide a good backup.
133:Joey Palmer--Starter. He has a good chance to be all-american. I hope he can measure up to the opportunity. Hans Rockwell--backup. Did not have a very good showing in his redshirt year. I am hoping with the effort he has put in he performs better this year.
141:Jack Hathaway--Starter. This is the first weight class that may have competition for starter. Hathaway was pretty much competitive with everyone last year, but could not find ways to make matches go his way. Because of this he did not earn a qualifying spot at nationals for the Pac-12. He dealt with injuries all year as well. Bryce Parson has a lot of talent and did pretty well as a redshirt and may win the spot. Even Izaak Tobin has been pretty competitive in tournaments and has a chance to take the spot.
149: Joey Delgado--starter. Alex Rich--backup. Delgado should win this spot, but Rich is good and could end up earning the spot. The other wrestler on the roster at this weight is a transfer that I know little about, but appears to be an average D1 wrestler at best at this point. Delgado has been close to the level of competing to be all-american, but not quite there. Hopefully this year he can figure that out.
157: Abraham Rodriguez--Starter. Rodriguez has been a similar story as Delgado. Hopefully, he figures it out this year. I felt as a freshman Rodriguez was wrongly denied a spot at Nationals and last year he did not do enough to earn it. Joseph DeMatteo showed signs of improving last year, but was not at the level of Rodriguez yet.
165: Take a guess you could be as accurate as mine at this weight. I would guess Collbran Meeker who performed the best of all the returners at this weight. He redshirted last year. Rodney Williams is close as far as competition. Riley Jaramillo has a good chance of winning this position as a true freshman. We will see.
174: This is another free for all. I would guess Weston Dobler as he appears to be the most talented of the returners (although his results did not always show it). Ali Alshujery works hard, but doesn't seem to have the X factor or whatever you want to call it to be a good D1 wrestler (would love to be proved wrong). Bob Coleman coming in as a true freshman appears to have a good chance as well.
184: Corey Griego is the starter here. He should be right in the mix to be an all-american, hopefully he can win the close matches and get there. I originally thought Bob Coleman would be at this weight and redshirt and provide depth. I saw on d1wrestling.net that Coleman was forecasted to compete at 174 so that is where I am putting him. Backup will probably have to come from 174, which is a bit of a concern.
197: Cody Crawford--Starter. If Crawford can get healthy and to the level he was as a freshman he will compete to be an all-american and just needs make his own breaks to earn this. I would guess that David Henry will provide depth at this weight, but otherwise there is no depth listed at this time.
Heavyweight: Amar Dhesi-- I predict he will finish 2nd as defeating the Olympic gold medalist will be a tall order. I think he has better skills than the other wrestlers ranked ahead of him (besides Snyder) even though they are ranked ahead for now. He is ranked 4th. The other heavyweights provide good depth and compete hard. They are no where near the skill of Dhesi right now. Last year Parazoo performed better than Millea.
Recruiting: I was not very satisfied with last years recruiting class. I like the ones they obtained, but felt like there could have been more. Although there is a fair amount of returning talent.
These are my random thoughts and opinions. It is long so only those interested will finish it. I would be happy to hear other opinions and ideas.
