Into Round 5 Dax Whitney still on the board keeping fingers crossed Of the top 100 draft prospects (11) have not been drafted (8) are pitchers, all are HS players. All have more leverage than smarts at times when demanding certain "slot" money or I'll go to school. For some it works out and they are truly enamored with playing for a certain school. For others it about the $$, which now can be had with NIL money. If a kid excels he can parlay a lower slot value into 3 seasons of an education and decent money... maybe including multiple stops at 4-year schools?! I know zero about the Whitney clan, but in today's game getting and then further developing talent can now be a zero-sum game. It used to be draft $ or education (or return for an education). Now a kid can have both even if academics aren't their forte.

Into Round 5 Dax Whitney still on the board keeping fingers crossed #157 Kmatz - Tampa ($418,600 slot value) that's a good sign. Now guessing Whitney wants a big dollar amount. Doesn't mean he won't get it as a later round pick but it does mean he didn't say he would sign (for example) $600k.

It's now at begin Round 7 // Pick # 196 // Slot Value 300K. No Dax Whitney.
Could OSU have a FRESHMAN weekend starter from Idaho next season??

Cautiously optimistic at this point.
Bridger Holmes to the Angels.

Not taken in Top 10 rounds. Still a chance if a team has a pool of money lying around tomorrow, but feeling pretty good

Pretty... pretty.. good. Let's get you to Corvallis buddy!

Pretty... pretty.. good. Let's get you to Corvallis buddy! Less than 1 hour to Round Eleven. All top 10 remaining players are high school. Here's a report from a Rangers fan website: Dax Whitney is a 6’5”, 193-195 lb. righthanded high school pitcher out of Blackfoot, Idaho. Whitney turned 18 in January. He is committed to Oregon State. Whitney has a solid fastball that sits in the low-90s and touches 96 mph. His velocity has improved this year as a senior, which has helped his draft stock. Whitney throws both a curveball and a slider that are considered to be quality breaking pitches. Whitney also throws a changeup, and while it lags behind his other pitches, as is usually the case for prep pitchers, he gets good reports on his feel for the pitch. Whitney is a strike thrower, with high grades for his control and ability to repeat his delivery. His size and build offers teams projection with him, as does the fact that he’s from the baseball backwaters. That projection gives him a high ceiling, particularly in conjunction with the advanced control he shows and the four pitch mix that would play well as a starter. Baseball America’s top 500 list currently has Whitney at #45. MLB Pipeline has Whitney at #56on their board. Keith Law has Whitney at #63 on his board. Kiley McDaniel has Whitney at #53 on his rankings. Fangraphs has Whitney at #35 on their just-updated and expanded top 100 board.
