So much for our staff not being able to develop pitching talent.

So much for our staff not being able to develop pitching talent. To be fair, Aiden May was a transfer.

To be fair, Aiden May was a transfer. Who had a 6+ ERA the year before. Largely on the back of two bad outings in early May. May had a great one-year improvement. But it is not like Oregon State had absolutely nothing to work with. Hjerpe being selected 22nd overall is a better testament to the staff's ability to develop pitchers. And the same can be said for Kmatz going 157 overall, as well.

So, we can agree that there was some development of May's ability at OSU?

So much for our staff not being able to develop pitching talent. To be fair, Aiden May was a transfer. Speed development in less than 12 months! 🤔😉

Yes, May is heading to Miami a better pitcher than when he enrolled at Oregon State University. You did not make the argument, so I fail to understand why you are defending it. However, championing May as proof positive that Dorman is not a terrible pitcher developer is a laughably weak argument. As previously stated, Hjerpe and Kmatz would be much better evidence of Dorman being a good pitcher developer.

As previously stated, Hjerpe and Kmatz would be much better evidence of Dorman being a good pitcher developer. I am sure there are better examples. But May was the subject of the post. Not Hjerpe. Not Kmatz. So yes, he was the guy I was alluding to. May pitched 75 innings at Arizona in 2023, 73 here in 2024. Virtually identical. His ERA decreased three full runs (6.33-3.14). His OBA deceased nearly 100 points (.314-.219). His HRs allowed decreased from 10 to 4. His extra-base hits allowed declined from 29 to 15. His WHIP declined from 1.73 to 1.14. His strikeouts increased (77 to 88), while his walks decreased (33 to 23). In less than nine months here, he improved significantly in every single measurable. Maybe you believe in coincidences. I don't.

Sam Sturh went pretty early too. Mostly with us, one year elsewhere... Did we do nothing to develop him OR May?
No credit given for either?
Gotta make up your mind.
Sometimes, a guy needs a slightly different perspective to make a jump. Glad it happened for both of them. I think the pitching is setting up to be a lot better over the next couple years.

I don't think Stuhr ever pitched in a game for us. But yes, a change of scenery can make a big difference. Connor Lambert at UP is a good pitching coach.
