Subject - Name Use Guidelines: Jen-Hsun and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex

Dear Colleagues,

Next week, we will celebrate the groundbreaking of the Huang Complex, so it seems timely to write with updated name use guidelines. They are the following:

Jen-Hsun and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex

• Use on first reference, fully spelled out.
• Note the formal spelling of Jen-Hsun Huang’s first name. You will see use of “Jensen” in other forms of communication and correspondence, and in the media. This is his preference. However, “Jen-Hsun” should always be used when referring to the official name of the building.
• Note the recent addition of “Mills” in the official building name.
• Should be used for exterior and interior signage.

   
Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex

• Use on second and subsequent reference, as appropriate.
• Never use “Collaborative Innovation Complex” alone. The Huang name must always be included.

“Huang Complex” or “the complex”

• Use on third and subsequent reference, as appropriate.
• “Huang Complex” may be used on first reference in internal-to-OSU communications among those familiar with the building and in situations where space considerations make the longer versions impractical.
• When using the complex, note that it is not capitalized. Correct: “the complex”. Incorrect: “the Complex”.
• Do not use “the center.” This avoids potential conflict and confusion with PRAx, the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts, for which “the center” is acceptable on third and subsequent reference.

Abbreviations

• “Huang CIC” is only to be used for the most informal correspondence.
• “HCIC” should be used sparingly and only in informal situations where an abbreviation makes sense due to space constraints, like texts, tables in documents, etc.
• “CIC” should never be used.
