In the upcoming MLB Draft, Baseball America is projecting six high school pitchers to be first round selections. All fall in the latter part of the first round with picks 22 through 30. There is an even split - 3 are leftys. They are:
Ryan Sloan - Elmhurst, Illinois HS (Orioles) Will Schmidt - Baton Rouge, LA. - Catholic HS (Dodgers) Cam Caminitti - Scotsdale, AZ. - Suhauro HS (Padres) Kass Mayfield - Elk City, OK. HS (Phillies) Dax Whitney - Blackfoot, ID. HS (Rangers) Braden Dougty - Temecula, CA. - Chaparral HS (Brewers)
The distance from Blackfoot, Idaho to Corvallis, Oregon just tripled !

Today, 48 hours prior to the draft D1 Baseball listed Whitney as one of the 10 prep pitchers their respective schools should prepare to lose.
I've looked at a half dozen Mocks and I have yet to see him last until the 3rd round. An OSU scholarship provides him leverage for an over slot 2nd round pick. Two of the mocks I've looked at have him going late first round.
Whitney throws from a high 3/4 slot with two wicked breaking pitches. Once his fastball velo reached 94-95, the neon lights began flashing. Scouts like his Pro-Pitchers body (6-5, 215), and excellent command of his entire arsenal - he locates everything where he wants to.

(mock drafts): "...I have yet to see him last until the 3rd round". The good news is that in real life he has. Monday's draft begins at 11 am Pacific. The first pick today will begin Round 3 (it'll be pick # 75 overall) and Whitney remains unselected. Several sites list him as a top 5 still available. So far, 13 HS pitchers have been selected (7 LH and 6 RH).
