It would never be in the news. Barnes let him save face. Ask someone in the AD department. Let me just call them up. I'm not sure if he was going to be fired for cause and you're never going to find a citable source for that, but the amount of smoke that was coming from the AD, the (apparently) whiskey-soaked texts to Canzano, and the on-field performance combined to create a very, very, very plausible case that GAG left the money on the table to avoid the dirty laundry being aired.

As a guess, many of his former assistants have respect for the sober version. They are probably giving him jobs so he can develop some stability and (also guessing) he is talented when he is not sideways with substance abuse and whatever demons get to him. This 100%

To be fair, even with all of that and the purported affair that Judge wants added to your list, his departure was still classier than Smith's.

Smith's hurt more because he was an alum and had built a strong foundation. He also didn't help himself with the crap he spewed afterward. But, he still left us with some semblance of a team, not the complete dumpster fire that GA left. Pick your lesser of two evils. Class should not be spoken about either one of their exits.

Honestly.... the more it looks like Oregon State is getting dragged into the Mountain West, the more I am starting to think that history will be kind to Smith and his departure will be mostly forgiven.
I say "mostly" because there are still people pissed off at Mike Riley for quitting in 98. Some people are just gonna be salty no matter what.

I actually was not shocked that he left with the situation that we were put in. I was more shocked that he took that job (I don't think that is a very good job) and I also did not appreciate the comments made after he left. He definitely stuck his foot in his mouth a couple of times. He just sold his house here for $1.82 million............so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

No, Smith's hurt because he sabotaged the last Civil War and our opportunity to make a statement.
Andersen's was a mercy killing. His departure was reason to rejoice.

Sabotaged? Maybe. But, our odds were not very good to win that game. That was a very good uck team at home. It was an extreme longshot.

The sale history on that property is interesting. Wonder if the University was somehow involved in the purchase of that home, it has a sale price of 1.1M and then a sale price of 340k later the same year.

Zillow has it incorrect on their site and my figure above is wrong. Smith bought it in 2018 for $1.1 million and he sold it in 6/24 for $1.7 million (not the $1.82 million I referenced) per the Benton county site. Zillow shows it pending for $1.9 million, but that is not correct.

I'm primarily p.o'ed because he quit in the middle of the year and didn't tell anyone. This was a year we had a realistic chance at a Pac-12 championship and an outside chance at a top four (playoff berth). And then he actively recruited OSU players to his new job. Those things are unforgivable. I believe they show an enormous character flaw. And because of that, 2023 was likely the pinnacle of his career.

I define “extreme long shot” as the year we won with GA, not our matchup with the Ducks this year with a vastly superior team. The way we played in that Civil War was reminiscent of some of those GA teams.
