I was curious where GAG ended up after USU canned him. Did a couple of years as an analyst for Weber State, was apparently out of football in 2023 and is now working as an analyst for Kalani Sitake at BYU.

As a guess, many of his former assistants have respect for the sober version. They are probably giving him jobs so he can develop some stability and (also guessing) he is talented when he is not sideways with substance abuse and whatever demons get to him.

A well-reasoned, thoughtful and even empathetic post on a football forum??

I imagine in a very focused part of the game, he probably has the knowledge to do well. But we've seen that he can't judge talent and that he can't be the puppet master in charge of all the strings. I hated what the Beavers became under his leadership, but I respect him for walking away leaving a pile of cash. His departure was far classier than Smith's.

Tricked into getting Ted Bundy's car at a cafeteria at Oregon State, while drunk. Raped multiple times over a several hour period before being bludgeoned to death. Nope. Still too soon, especially on an Oregon State board. Smith is a s#*thead, but he is not a freaking monster.

Barnes gave him an out. There was nothing “classy” about his departure.
