I wish he hadn't been shut down for the summer. Another 20 innings or so for the Knights would not have hurt him one bit.

I wish he hadn't been shut down for the summer. Another 20 innings or so for the Knights would not have hurt him one bit. He's not very mechanically sound. He is still very much an "arm thrower" and needs to spend time working on his motion... balance points, drop/drive, consistent landing point, and finishing balanced. Has the tools, just has no idea how to incorporate them all... yet.

What is your assessment of his kinetic chain?

What is your assessment of his kinetic chain? As of now he doesn't have the optimal sequential coordination of key body components. He'll need work in both open and closed chain movements and exercises. As stated previously (balance points, drop/drive, top side extension, finishing) that will lead to optimizing the sequential movements of the key body parts to produce the most efficient and greatest output. Simply put, for the nonanalytic types/old school, right now his motion is veery piecemeal and inconsistent.

I'd agree he is a bit of an arm thrower, his lower body isn't nearly as disconnected from upper body as you'd like to see. It's like the equivalent of a slow pitch softball swing but throwing. But drop and drive isn't for every arm action or every pitcher. He could definitely unlock more velo disconnecting upper and lower body, but at the end of the day, he's been successful doing that tall to fall style with solid command. It's interesting to see what they try to do with him next year.

You have to come prepared for Fall ball. If my calculus is correct, Coach Dorman will be evaluating as many as 25 pitching prospects this fall depending on the draft status of three freshman pitchers- there won't be much time for individual in-depth coaching.
