Finished 4th all-around (not far from 2nd). Team not yet announced....but Paris looks pretty certain.

She had BETTER be on that team, finishing fourth in the trials with five spots available. If she doesn’t, there is some sketchy bulls%#t going on in the smoke filled room.
Jade made it! Headed to Paris to defend her FX gold medal. GO BEAVERS!!

Congratulations to a true champion. Very sketchy selection system. The men go strictly on scores( what a novel concept) the women compete, only the all around winner is guaranteed a spot. After the competition, a “selection committee “ goes into a room and names the rest of the team. Pretty rotten system that just begs for shenanigans

I don’t see ANY possible justification for a committee leapfrogging one competitor onto the team over another competitor who outscored her in competition. Crazy to even contemplate.

While I am a huuuuge Jade Carey fan, I generally don't much care for events like gymnastics or figure skating that entail subjective, but not necessarily objective, judging to determine the winner. This goes back to the days of the soviet union and the 'Russian judge' I much prefer looking at the event and thinking, "OK, he was the first over the finish line; he wins."
This goes even beyond subjective judging. That's already been done, but then the good old boys go into the smoke filled back room and decide that she who finished third didn't really; she finished sixth? Absolute BS. (please note I don't know if anything like that happened tonight; I'm just railing against the system like the others.)
Anyway, I'm super happy for Jade, who has stuck loyally with the Beavs for a lot of years. May she come home from Paris with yet another gold medal!

Go Jade!!!
A very good representative for the Beavs, the positive press is much needed. As a side note, she has done an excellent job of explaining the benefits she had competing at the college level.

I think it is to put together the most competitive team. If someone scores a 10 everytime on balance beam, but is mediocre in the other disiplines, they will want them on the team to get those beam points. That's my understanding. from the google on how olympics works: The best eight gymnasts on each apparatus advance to the final on each apparatus. A maximum of two gymnasts from each country can compete in the All-around and event finals. Teams compete three gymnasts on each event in finals, and have to count each score. That means you need a team that can give you three big scores on all the events and do it consistently. The selection committee used a complex mathematical formula, and these five emerged as the team with the highest scoring potential.

And how dare we possibly mistrust the secret deliberations of USA Gymnastics?

Jade is an OSU athlete who has a year of eligibility remaining and has not announced her plans for 2024-25.

It sounds a lot like the committee that selects the participants of the college football playoff.

The process I don't have a major problem with it. I think it helps to create the best possible team.
