I think 9 is generous. We didn't win the league or the pac12 tourney in a relatively weak league. Florida and NC State did not win the SEC/ACC or their Tourneys either. Florida looked like hot garbage to end the season. And NC State got crushed by an awful Duke team. I disagree.

C'mon, man! Be a fan. The only teams that arguably had a better season than Oregon State behind Oregon State are Arkansas, Clemson, and Georgia. There is no way that Florida and NC State should be ranked ahead of Oregon State. Definitely a top 10 team. Got screwed with the Super Regional seeding. If they could have reseeded the Supers, Oregon State probably would have been through to Omaha. Instead, Kentucky nipped Oregon State by a run at home. And I will continue to say that Oregon State probably beats Kentucky at a neutral site most weekends. Obviously, not that weekend in Lexington, though. The season plays out completely differently, if you flip one of the one-run losses throughout the season. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Playing in Lexington was a borderline neutral site. Beavs were knocked off their game in part by "loud music". They were better than we were. The ball bounced their way.

No matter our final ranking, the season was a disappointment. This was supposed to be an Omaha team.
Too many uneven performances. Bats disappeared at the worst times. Sloppy defense. Mental mistakes. Pitching was good enough at times.....other times, not so much.
The talent on this team wasn't enough to overcome the inconsistencies. I'm not sure if it was a leadership thing, or what. The team was great at Goss, but not very good on the road......I thought they might figure that out at some point, especially after the Zona series....turns out Zona wasn't very good. 0-2 in their own regional!

Not sure what you or anyone else saw to think this was supposed to be a CWS team.
We never developed a consistent #3 starter. We never developed a consistent closer. We never developed a consistent bullpen to get us to the closer, who was often shaky, especially on the road. Whether that attributable to talent or to coaching is immaterial. We didn't have good enough pitching, period.
We struck out far too often to be a truly consistent offensive team and were not a good defensive team at the corners.

Going into the season this team was absolutely being hyped as an Omaha team......even within the organization. It didn't work out. We've been talking about the issues all season. The talent was there. The execution was not, when it counted.

So that's my disappointment..... obviously when it was all said and done, the team wasn't good enough to get to Omaha. They absolutely could've been though. The raw talent was there.
Hunter never getting back to form is a big one. Guerra took a big step back. The catcher position......meh. What happened to Krieg? Some key injuries like Caraway, Scott, Lattery hurt.....still, this team couldn't play on the road, regardless of anything else.

The final rankings are never perfect, they do their best to combine regular season and post season performances. This is the proper approach IMO, but does lead to plenty or fuel for fan bases to be dissatisfied and split hairs.

I was one of the fans that thought this team had CWS potential and had a great chance at making it to Omaha. I still do, but whether it was injuries or some players not taking the next step up.......we didn't get it done. At the end of the day, Tennessee & Texas A&M looked like two best teams this year and even if all of our potential was realized with no injuries those two teams were a notch above us & everyone else.

We didn't have good enough pitching, period. We struck out far too often to be a truly consistent offensive team and were not a good defensive team at the corners. I know we harped on pitching a lot throughout the season, but in the end pitching is not in any way shape or form what kept this team from making it to Omaha. This team had up to 3 all-american pitchers depending on what site you use, one of which (who was a unanimous all-american I might add) was our closer. No closer is ever going to have a 100% save %. Emmanuel Clase, the best closer in the big leagues (who has a 0.70 ERA and 0.65 WHIP) has 3 blown saves and a loss on his record right now. The bullpen was thin sure, but by season's end Keljo, Mundt, and to a lesser extent Lawson had become reliable options out of the bullpen. Others had moments too. Segura was fine as a #3 starter and a much better option than many teams had as well. Hunter and Lattery just not being themselves and in the latter case (no pun intended) being hurt were a detriment for sure.
The big issue though was offensively. This team flat out did not score enough runs on the road and put enough balls in play to make it as far as we needed to. That and the defensive issues in the field in April in particular, kept this team from hosting a super and ultimately making a CWS appearance. Everything was great when long balls were flying, but as we've seen over the years that's a feast or famine game and too often it was famine when they needed to step up. The last 4 losses this team experienced on the season they scored a combined 6 runs, 1.5 a game. That doesn't get it done at any level regardless of how good or bad the pitching is.
I do agree the corner infield spots were a big problem. Hopefully Caraway is fully healthy and gets into a consistent groove next season at 3B and we find improvement at 1B and catcher to address that.
