Not only has uncle Phillip given gazillions of dollars to Nike u's athletic dept., he just gave "hole" half a billion dollars to build a science campus. A half a BILLION DOLLARS...U.S. The largest single gift from anyone to any public university, ever. Must be nice....

I agree with ftd. When you have a billion+ dollars it's hard to see how you can give millions to sports but none to education. philly, to his defense, has balanced off his donations.
We did a really good job last year (or was it the year before?) with the capital drive for the endowment fund.

Nobody should be disappointed in the effort Oregon State is putting into building their academic side up. There has been huge expansion in both program offerings, recruitment of talent and facility building.

Somewhat telling.

I have a hot take on thermodynamics I wanted to lay out somewhere!

Granted, it's not the main campus, but OSU did just start the process of building a branch campus in Bend and expanding it's Oceanography school in Newport. Nothing to sneeze at. OSU has also built up it's science and engineering structure. We've just had to do it with a lot more donors.

To be fair, this is not the first donation he's made to the academic side of UO - I believe he paid for the law library down there among other things. Good for him - the donation should help the school and the Eugene economy.

I just hate seeing "them" get an edge on us regarding ANYTHING. Anyone else see the Wall St. Journal's ACADEMIC ranking of the PAC 12 members? Hole was dead last......we were just one ahead. That's not the type of ranking we should be proud of. Why the poor academic rating? What can we do about it? I'll cite it when I find it again. Upset the hell out of me.

How can a university be a "flagship university" when they don't even offer ALL the majors. They have journalism, law and architecture and we've got pretty much all the Engineering Majors, Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine. With footprints, in Bend and Newport, OSU is more of the State's university.

Just came out with the OSU Alumni Beaver News and E-Clips.
Starts out with the good news, then some "needs improvement".
At least we are continually working on being the best Land-Grant school as possible.
Like anything else, it takes money.
