If Beaver Baseball can keep its core together for next year, we should be incredibly competitive again, and likely preseason top 25.
The core I am talking about:
Turley Krieg Trosky Reeder Caraway Macias Talt Weber Keljo Segura Palmer
A couple of important side notes: 1. Did Mason Guerra hurt his draft stock enough this year to stick around for one more? I think it’s very possible. He looked flat out bad for the last two plus months of the season outside of about 6 at bats. He certainly hurt his draft stock at the very least.
2. I did include Palmer on important “core” to return. Some might scoff at that, but I personally think he has way too much upside to lose. We are going to need some young pitchers to step up next year, and I’d like him to be one of them.
3. Does Caraway stay? He has been fully committed to this program to this point, even though he was a very highly touted prospect and not a northwest kid. He lost a ton of playing time this year due to injury, and never regained his swagger and performance from the first quarter of the season. Does another big time program swoop in and attempt to steal him? I sure hope he sticks around because, in my opinion, he is one of the top three most important returning position players.
4. Does Weber get drafted? I haven’t seen anything with him in it, but I think we lose Tanner Smith, so it would be awesome to return Weber.
5. What type of pitching talent can we get in the portal? We lose a lot of pitching with guys like May, Kmatz, Lattery, Lawson, Hunter, Holmes, and Scott. Not a lot of proven stud pitchers returning. I like some of our young pitching talent, but guys like Talavs, Palmer, Morrell need to show they can consistently step up in big moments.

There will be some guys who will enter portal over projected playing time. I'm betting the nucleus of the returnees stay together here. A few not on your list who still have eligibility might consider returning if they fall outside the top ten rounds. A starting rotation of Segura, Keljo and a young Kmatz would be something to look forward to.
Last time I looked, May is projected to go in the third round. Coming here improved his draft stock. Good story for Canham and Dorman to tell prospective talent in the portal.
Lots to be optimistic about and yes I hope this post ages well.

The catcher position needed a major upgrade. One guy can catch and throw but not hit, the other swings it a bit but can’t frame or throw. I guess Adley’s don’t grow on trees

The official opening date for 2025 roster speculation /identification in Benny's House is Wednesday, July 17th.
First we need to see the Transfer Portal play out from June 3rd through July 2nd.
Second, we need to see the result of the MLB Draft on July 14th through the 16th.
Those two events will help identify current roster attrition, incoming transfers, players leaving via the MLB Draft, players drafted that don't siogn and return to OSU, and Recruits that are drafted and sign.
In 37 days, you will have something to work with.

What is this year's signing deadline?

Signing deadline August 1. 5pm EDT July 30. 5 pm EDT. Where does it August 1st? That is close to the trade deadline, rather than the First-Year Player Draft Deadline.

The catcher position needed a major upgrade. One guy can catch and throw but not hit, the other swings it a bit but can’t frame or throw. I guess Adley’s don’t grow on trees Except for in the super regionals, I didn’t notice any problems with catching. If we let the super regional determine our needs, we’ll, we need a lot of hitters first.

If we let the super regional determine our needs, we’ll, we need a lot of hitters first. That’s why baseball is a game of averages. You can’t determine an offense’s worth on one series. If that was the case, Travis Bazanna sucks at hitting because he went 1-7 with 3 Ks during the super. Slumps happen in baseball all the time, even to the best teams and best hitters. Unfortunately ours came at a really bad time. If you look at the season, our offense was potent, hitting over .300 as a team and triple digit home runs. We just went cold for a series, same thing happened with our vaunted offense in 2013 in Omaha. If that core comes back, that’s a very good returning offense if we can get a few more guys to develop or fill in. I agree about the catching. If Weber comes back I feel really solid about that position next year.

If we let the super regional determine our needs, we’ll, we need a lot of hitters first. Weber struggled behind the plate all year. There's a reason Smith caught games May pitched. He was 2/20 throwing runners out coming into the series, and struggled mightily with throws down to 2nd and backpick attempts all season long. Weber only has 2 errors coming into this weekend but it was on less attempts and doesn't tell the whole story. Might need Wilky's assistance to discuss passed balls/wild pitches while he was catching vs. Smith, but overall Smith is a better receiver as well. Weber did throw a runner out against Kentucky, but it was on a double steal and was throwing out the slower trail runner trying to take 2nd, and doesn't make up for the throwing errors/other defensive fiascos behind the plate both games. He took over as the primary catcher in March as he got on a tear hitting the ball but then cooled off significantly in the last month to month and a half of the season. IMO having him in the lineup didn't add enough offensively in May/June to justify having him behind the plate as much as he was.
Having one or both back would be welcome next season, but unless one or both make a significant step forward then an upgrade would be very welcome at the position.
