Noah Ferguson was pulled today having recorded no outs, but recorded one strikeout in his official stats for the game. I'm sure this has happened more than once in the history of baseball (Wilky?), but I don't recall ever seeing a guy get credit for 0 innings and 1 K in a box score before.

I don't remember the last time that an Oregon State pitcher threw a strikeout and did not record an out. Much less a relief pitcher coming in and throwing a wild pitch on a strikeout.

My guess is that it has happened at some point with a situational guy brought in to face one hitter. But I cannot recall ever seeing that before, either watching live or in a box score.

He struck out Smith but Smith reached second when Weber couldn't handle the third strike, and then threw the ball away. He gets credit for a strikeout but no out was recorded.

I am not sure that it has not happened since, but it happened to Louisville's Kayden Campbell on April 28, 2024. Campbell came on in the seventh in a 14-7 ballgame against Clemson on a getaway day with a runner on first. Campbell immediately threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt, the runner to second. There was a passed ball. Runner to third. Campbell then gave up a double and dinger. The batter who hit the home run was ejected but the runs counted. Campbell then struck out the next hitter, but the batter reached on a second passed ball. Campbell was pulled after 11 pitches to end the insanity. Louisville did not score in the bottom of the seventh and the game ended, because it was a Sunday and the 10-run rule was in effect. 17-7. Louisville recovered to win the next three on the road and four straight overall.

Numerous examples of four strikeouts in an inning because of a dropped third strike/wild pitch. It's unusual but not that unusual (like an unassisted triple play), as it's happened more than 50 times in MLB history.
From Baseball Reference:
"Because a pitcher can receive credit for a strikeout even when the batter reaches base safely, it's possible for him to strike out more than three batters in one inning. It's theoretically possible to record an arbitrary number of strikeouts in an inning, but the major league record is 4. The record is shared by over 50 different pitchers.
"Chuck Finley was the first pitcher in MLB history to record 4 strikeouts in an inning more than once, and he managed the feat 3 times. Others who have done so twice include A.J. Burnett and Craig Kimbrel."
