Dax Whitney is a talented RHP from Blackfoot, Idaho. Dax is a long and lean 6-5, 195 with high gas and filthy secondaries. He has won numerous prep awards at BHS including All Idaho awards twice. He is currently the #1 ranked player in Idaho with both Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report. He has been committed to OSU since his sophomore year in HS. Blackfoot nis located between Pocatello and Idaho Falls, a little off the beaten path for recruiters and pro scouts. In the last year that has changed.
Dax cruises in the 92-95 range with lively fastball and two off-speed breaking balls and a change-up. His size, makeup and "stuff" is attracting more and more MLB Scouts to his games. He recently pitched the 18u Idaho Bandits Travel Team to the championship of the West Memorial Day Classic in Arizona. He walked away with the Tournament MVP award. That's all good news for Beaver Nation.
The bad news? Scouts are flocking, National Cross Checkers have been spotted, and folks like RPG, BA and PBR have him rocketing up the rankings list. Swanson makes the second day of the MLB Draft interesting for the Beavs, now Whitney may be an additional concern. Both are RHP . . . ouch!
