Please take time to understand what memorial day is about

Many of us who served get it. I don't know how many who didn't, know what this day is about.

When I was stationed in Germany, I had an occasion to drive from Paris to Holland and was stunned by the incredible number of cemeteries we saw on the trip. There were American,  German and others from WW1 and WW2.  The American cemeteries had mostly crosses but many stars of David.

Those graveyards were huge. I will never forget the enormity of death that these places represented. The graves were laid out in check rows so when you drove by you would see different lines of headstones depending on the angle you were on. Many thousands could be seen by the naked eye..

This is what memorial day is about. I'm flying my flag right side up.
