Regarding the original post in this thread, about not feeling too bad about the game results...
I found that last defensive stand inspiring. Our guys laid it all on the line and worked their ass off to stop Utah in 4 downs and get the ball back. Even though we had 37 seconds left and an MIA passing game, they sold out completely and did their part even though they knew there was likely no miracle payoff waiting at the end. They fought and fought, determined to not have this game end on taking a knee.
This team is gonna need that never-say-die attitude if they're gonna turn things around. That's something our defense can build off of, and our offense can learn from...
GO BEAVS!

Why are you ignoring or blowing off Marcus M as quarterback? Why go for a Juco? It seems to me the ONLY quarterback that has moved this team the last season and one-half is Marcus. Am I missing some information? Why not let Marcus run the team? It seems the OL has started to open some holes for,the RBs. The defense has started to step up their game. The problem is the starting QB couldn't get the ball close enough consistently enough for the receivers to catch consistently. (And a couple of the receivers must practice well, but can't bring that to the game.)

I'm not counting MM out, or anyone out for that matter. But MM completed 40% of his passes last year, and got passed up by a walk on freshman this year. I don't know, maybe there is a reason for that. He had a great game against Oregon where our rushing attack was unstoppable. He had a great quarter last week, or drive. Other than that, there is nothing to talk about.

Coach said plainly today in the monday press conference that Marcus has the next 6 games as his opportunity.
So barring injury he's the man for rest of the season.

McMariyon was the best passer by far out of the QBs who played last year. That is not saying a lot, but he is better at throwing the ball.

I think McM has the raw skill and potential. he has not had a fair shake in my opinion. It remains to be seen if the coaches can call plays for him and his receivers can get open and catch the ball. And, wouldn't you know... his first start this year is on the road at #5 Washington, that for the first time in my memory is actually living up to their preseason hype. for McM, in my opinion, if it weren't for bad luck he'd have no luck at all...

Eggers column said MM was 16th ranked dual threat QB in the nation when he was recruited. So I imagine he can run a little - he was able to complete a few passes in the Utah game - I just cant figure out why he was so far down the chart....?!?! He was a Riley guy - so maybe that is part of it. Arizona did offer him - for what that is worth.

Everybody but Garretson has struggled with the zone read. Collins was electric with the ball in his hands but it was boom or bust not consistent, because he often made the wrong read.
What I remember about Marcus last year was having the distinct impression that he made the right reads but struggled MIGHTILY with location of the ball in the short passing game when the bullets were live. Kind of early Jonathan Smith-esque, and while you might think that is a compliment, if I had a wayback machine so that you could read all of the posts about his atrocious accuracy on the old GoBeavs usernet mailing list, you would see that it's not. Fans were hollering for Terrence Bryant most of the season and even when Erickson showed up Niner had to battle for his job. Nine didn't lack for arm strength, either.
Sometimes the smart, heady QB's just don't pass the eyeball test and don't have the prettiest stat lines. Smitty finally won the job in 99 and then never let it go, but his first two seasons throwing the ball were up and down and he certainly wasn't the fan favorite until the latter half of 99.
I guess what I'm getting at is, I don't think it's over for McMaryion, he still has a shot.

Yeah, Marcus just seemed like last year was a bit of a "white knuckling it" ie he looked WORSE when he was named starter. Has a year of maturity helped with his comfort level? I dunno.

I think we as fans need to be very ready to just forget this Saturday. I hate to say it. Not only is UW pretty good on offense, but I would say their defense is a hands down top 5 national squad. This may be "white flag" waving on my part, but lets judge him on a winnable game or two left on our schedule. I think every game left except this one is a game we have a puncher's chance in.

I'm just hoping they show up and play hard and produce a few exciting plays. Manageable expectations will keep me from being too cranky after the game is over.
