I don’t know, I kind of like this one. I have no idea if the kid has a case. I’m sure it could be hard to prove what, and how, any “promises” were made. But, I’d love to see some of these programs, boosters, collectives, or whatever be held accountable for some of the things they seem to be offering kids and then possibly backing out on.

I "think" I'm all for it as well. If coaches and supporters are making monetary promises to the kids, hold their feet to the fire and sue 'em if they don't deliver. Maybe if it happens often enough, things could slow down a bit on the NIL front. Right now it's sort of like having an auction where someone raises the bid with no real intention of honoring it. I hope the kid nails 'em.

good luck winning a lawsuit vs a rich dude And, "he said, he said"... that is why you get a written contract. Of course there is the issue of timing according to the article as NIL can't be used to induce a signing, which this kid admits to. So he and the booster are breaking the NCAA rules although athletes aren't punished. Which by the way seem a bit hypocritical. These kids are now big boys who can take money for basically no "work", can move to a new school each year, yet aren't help responsible for breaking known NCAA rules?? So, this kid, and family, are dumb enough to be taken for a ride AGAIN. Some legal beagle is promising them a big payday for a cut of the pie cuz I'm sure it is not a "pro bono publico" type offer by a good natured law firm.

And it's not in writing, so good luck enforcing it. At most, it is an agreement to agree.

I mean, an athlete would never misunderstand the offer, and what is required from them to earn the NIL, right? 🙄

I think it’s funny. A terrible tale of greed. $9.5 Mil? Screw you, there’s bigger money over in Gainesville. Oops! Rescinded. Gator coach in hot water for directly offering money to pay for play. Florida jock sniffing sugar daddy loaning money to pay off the advance from his counterpart at Miami that the kid probably blew on gold chains! Ha ha Will lessons be learned?
Nope

Nope NIL is now in all effects Pay for Play. IIRC NIL started with a couple of UCLA basketball players who wanted to be compensated when a video game used their 'image' in the game and it's packaging, promotions, etc. That makes sense. Use my image and pay me. Now..? It's just pay for play with a wink wink nudge nudge added in

But oddly, one of the only “rules” connected to NIL is that you can’t “pay for play.” Hence the cheesy local endorsements etc. But in this case the Florida HC is on the record saying “we’ll give you a million dollars to sign with Florida.” Billie Gillespie maybe?
