In an article about Ionescu and the other 6 recruits at the school down south: "Before joining Graves’ staff to begin the challenge of rebuilding the dormant Oregon program, Campbell helped recruit the core group of players to Corvallis that led Civil War rival Oregon State to the Final Four last season. “Those six as a whole each bring a different skill set and a different gift to the court, but we needed that lead guard to really complement all of those players,” Campbell said of adding Ionescu to the Ducks’ class. “Obviously, I recruited that group at Oregon State that went to the Final Four, and this group as a whole is more talented than that group as freshmen." registerguard.com/rg/sports/34895961-81/crown-jewel-of-a-historic-class.html.csp#.WAPML8H5Gjg.twitterArticle also goes on to talk about Ionsecu signing prompted Uncle Phil to send a text message....... Will be interesting to see how this plays out - I will say that the Pac-12 WBB scene is a very challenging one: ASU, Stanford, UW, uo, etc have all really stockpiled talent. The top 5-6 teams in the Pac-12 are all likely capable of going on a UW-like Final Four run in the tournament. Will be fun to see how we stack up! (Especially if E. Westbrook joins the fray for the Beavers!) Go Beavs!

I happened to be in the same terminal at pdx as the women's team a couple years ago. At the time I didn't know who Campbell was, but I thought he seemed like a douche while watching him. I also came away feeling like Rueck actually seemed a little annoyed by him.
It does appear that he may be an effective recruiter though. I do agree that recruiting doesn't seem to have dropped off after he left though.

Helping recruit some players and coaching them are completely different. He makes it sound like he was the only reason those players came to OSU and were successful. And I'm sure coach Graves had nothing to do with Oregons class this year. Wow, get over yourself.

Again, people associated with the athletic department down there make it so easy to hate them. Can someone please huck a water bottle at that tool's head when they visit Corvallis next? Ok I don't condone "violence", but... Would it be worth it for you to spend 5 years in jail and a 125 thousand dollar fine inciting violence to a person on the web? Not a wise choice on your part no matter what context it is in. Remember OSU personnel do monitor sports websites like this site at times.

In an article about Ionescu and the other 6 recruits at the school down south: “Obviously, I recruited that group at Oregon State that went to the Final Four, and this group as a whole is more talented than that group as freshmen." "Obviously"....yeah, it was all him. Give me a break! Douche is right.
Wouldn't the group he has coming in to uo be more talented "on paper" than our core group that went to the Final Four? I say this because OSU was coming off the Wagner disaster, outside of George Fox Rueck, was a relative unknown. So it took a huge leap of faith to land even a Syndey Wiese or Jamie Weisner. In comparison, flash forward to this recruiting cycle: Is it really a surprise that Campbell was able to recruit a more talented group ? (compared to OSU's core group a few years ago). Graves is a proven commodity (having won at Gonzaga), they went to the NIT last year & they have a new arena. Comparing what he has to work with at uo and the circumstances just a few years ago at OSU, wouldn't one expect him to land "a more talented" class?
That doesn't account for the fact that the talent still has to be developed and coached. He fits right in at the dark side. Giving no credit to the coaching job of the opponent. Recruiting is obviously half the battle, but you don't take a program from the brink of extinction to the Final Four without having one of the best head coaches in the country; and thankfully that is what we have in Rueck.
I've seen enough top Oregon WBB HS talent leave the state over the years to the likes of Stanford, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Louisville. For once it would be outstanding if we could keep elite talent and help sustain a program that Coach has proven can compete with the best (sans UConn). I think the only thing keeping us from landing E. Westbrook is a desire to leave home for college.
The PAC12 like in Volleyball in Softball is brutally competitive in women's sports. It's going to be interesting to see how it shakes out in the coming years.

If I were Kelly Graves I'd watch my back. Campbell sounds like he's all about Mark Campbell.
