Well... a good part of the disappointment and disbelief is due believing the rankings and "hype". Even though this team had a ton of question marks and newbies some just assumed all would fall into place. That, followed by playing a pretty weak schedule may have given a bit of a false impression of how good this team is.
So maybe the injury bug, inconsistent play is this team. Maybe having a 1st round pick is just that as it happens to multiple teams EVERY season. This team has talent, but it hasn't clicked consistently. Happens to many teams. But, it could at any time.
This team has lots of baseball left to play and they aren't the team of the first 15 or so games, nor the one of the last 10-12. Top 8 seed? Probably not? But, they don't have to be to have a successful season.

But, they don't have to be to have a successful season. Good analysis here. I think a lot of our disappointment has to do with our expectations and the hype given to this team. Maybe this team is really more a 15-20 ranked team vs a top 8 seed. That’s not a bad thing, as long as you are realistic with what our team is. I, for one, bought into the hype and expected some of our returning guys to do a lot more than what they have done this year. I’m not happy with how we are playing, not at all. It’s hard to watch these last three weeks. But remember, our 2007 club barely made postseason play, finished right about .500 in conference play, and had to travel to a different regional. But, they got hot at the right time, some young dudes and non-stars showed up in the postseason, and we won it all. I’m not saying this team does that, but this team has the talent. It’s just about putting it all together at the same time. Unfortunately right now, we are playing like a team that will be heading home early in the postseason. We will see if we right the ship. Hope we do. Go Beavs. |
