The good news is JS lost his best defensive player DL Derrik Harmon to the portal. The bad news is he is going to oregon. SC who was also after him, their board is reporting he was asking for a 7 figure NIL deal, apparently uncle phil won the bidding war. It has gotten pretty much impossible to complete at the national level unless you have deep pockets.

Salary cap, contracts, collective bargaining, do what the NFL does to prevent this from happening in their league.

Sadly, the NFL is only in the position it is in today because the league agreed to a collective, revenue sharing TV contract back in 1970 (or so?). NCAA football has fought against a collective TV contract more recently than that. The Big schools would have to give up taking their largest pieces of the pie, and that's exactly the opposite of the track they've been following recently. NCAA football is more likely to end up looking like international soccer than the NFL.

This. Exactly this. There is no collective in the conferences. The NCAA is administrative in purpose at best. Without any leveraging power, everyone is at the whim of the athletes, which I'm sure some think is great but in reality it's going to get worse. At some point, with all the money being directed to a few really good athletes, it's going to drain the tank for the rest. And all the money trying to keep up with the Jones' in football is going to sink other sports. Eventually, you'll be left with a very, very small core set of colleges who field several sports, and a lot that only field 2-3. And 95% of the potential athletes won't be able to go to college or won't see any improvement in this scenario, all so that the 5% who do get these huge payouts. When really the NFL should just do like MLB and make a farm system to get that out of the way. But, of course, why would the NFL do that when they can have colleges incur all the expense and because everyone knows an NFL farm system wouldn't get enough attention to pay for itself. The other problem is it takes so long for these curves/story lines to develop. College football viewership will go up for sure the next 2-3 years. Then, when reality really sets in and things change for the worse, people stop watching. People stop going to games, attention is lost. Then the media dollars dry up a bit because not as many people are interested. But that could be 10 years out.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy - let’s see how AC performs when the Oline is porous - run Forrest, run! 😎
