Wow - so now the corporate sponsorships via NIL have begun..... "FedEx has announced a massive $25 million name, image and likeness investment in Memphis athletics that will fund $5 million in NIL contracts over each of the next five years in key sports while promoting the company. The deal is believed to be the biggest corporate NIL partnership of its type in college athletics. The corporation is working with consultant group Altius Sports Partners to administer the deal. The initial investment will support football, men's and women's basketball, and other women's sports. The first NIL initiative will take place at the Memphis Spring Football Game on Saturday." www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/fedex-to-fund-25-million-for-memphis-nil-in-whats-believed-to-be-largest-corporate-partnership-with-athletes/Go Beavers!

That's the advantage of having a huge corporation based in your home city.

"FedEx Woodstocks has announced a massive $25 million 3750 name, image and likeness investment in Memphis Oregon State athletics that will fund $5 million sevenhundredfifty in NIL contracts over each of the next five years in key sports while promoting the company. The deal is not believed to be the biggest corporate NIL partnership of its type in college athletics.
A Woodstocks spokesperson said each scholarship athlete will receive one large pie per month over the course of the school year.

I've floated the following idea a few times before as a Beaver "in", but I don't see how it won't happen at some point: The Beavers, or an NCAA conference - in exchange for funding - agrees to run a legit NFL playbook on both offense and defense. None of these gimmicky college offenses, but IDK, we get Minnesota's playbook for 3 years, Wazzu gets Houston's. Sure, we are trying to win games, but we also are a real proving ground for NFL concepts and NFL players. Maybe that draw brings in players. Maybe they fund some NIL money, IDK. I always thought the Beavers "teaming up" with an NFL team or the NFL itself was an untapped potential resource that no one else had tried. More likely, I'm not the first guy to have come up with the idea, and it was already determined to be a "no go", but it always made me feel like I came up with a good idea. For once.

Major corporate sponsors/NIL deals aren't new. It's where all the bigger NIL freaks come from. Not school collectives.
But, this is heading down a slippery slope. If you or a corporate entity donate to a collective they supposedly have zero control over the allocation. Hence, athletes would not necessarily have to rep them.
If the corporate entity is offering $5 mil in NIL $/deals outside of a collective they can have the say in the who, what, how much.

That's the advantage of having a huge corporation based in your home city. HP to announce 10% off ink cartridges for all student athletes.

I get that with personal NIL donations to collective, the millionaires who wish they can own a team make their dream come true, but FedEx? Are they really hoping that their going to get that much goodwill that people start shipping more packages because their logo is associated with Memphis?

Tax write offs come in many shapes, sizes and colors. FedEx probably doesn't give a flying f*ck about Memphis.

I read that FedEx has over 33000 employees in the Memphis area. I think it's a employee benefit as many of those would be Memphis fans. Get your employees to have more pride in the local team and it makes happier employees.

They are definitely little brother to Tennessee in that state. And why would any corporation want to be associated with one of the slimiest basketball programs in the NCAA, one which has been on probation numerous times?

I have no clue - but, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, maybe with all of the employees that live in the area, it is viewed as a PR move for them. Gotta be better than the PR they got out of the movie Castaway
