Immense talent but a disconnect somewhere. It’s like they showcase their tools but don’t take care of the details. We have guys who can run, but we are not a good base running team. Pitchers show velo but are not applying it correctly. Fielders with range and arm who make lazy errors and don’t communicate well. Season is 2/3 over, the way they are pitching and playing right now I don’t think they get out of a regional

I tend to agree with this sentiment.
They definitely have the talent to make a run, but they feel like a team that will run into a more disciplined team, that will take them out.
Pitching depth may also get this team in the end.

The Hitting might keep us in the hunt but the Pitching looks like a two Horse operation with maybe 2 Ponies in the stalls. Hit for Show, Pitch for the Dough!

Pitching and hitting are both high quality nationally for most metrics. I think the main issue they could improve on is errors. We have so many base running and fielding errors this season, it's nice we can make up for it with homers but we should be beating teams by 5 run margins not letting them in games that are over.
Pitching the big bad stat is HBP. Hitting the bad stat is SO.

In a Regional, if we can get wins in the first two, all we have to do is win on Sunday or Monday. Segura and Hunter would both have to have terrible games to take down Oregon State. In a Super, someone still has to beat May or Kmatz to see Segura or Hunter. At the College World Series, if Oregon State goes 2-0 and loses game 3, the game 1 starter can come back to throw the Elimination Game. The Championship Series would be more difficult. I think that there is a lot of gross overreaction going on here. 2024 Oregon State is arguably the second-best (or possibly best) Beaver team of all time. The run differential this season is phenomenal. The pitching and defense has been inconsistent, but it always is. It's baseball.

We have a huge tendency to give up the big inning, and with that, few leads can be considered “safe”. We’re all edgy even with a six run lead this year because we’ve been shown we can blow it… we’ve also been shown we can just run teams out of the ballpark. Segura is a prime example of this - when he’s on he seems unhittable. Once they break the facade he seems to me like he crumbles fast a lot of the time. Our defensive miscues are also mystifying to me. I don’t get why we get them in bunches like we have been. Gotta clean that up.
This team, and especially this lineup, can beat anyone. But (especially with injuries) it feels like they can also cough one up to anyone out of the blue. They’re fantastic, but also prone to being mercurial, IMO

They’re fantastic, but also prone to being mercurial, IMO Segura is carrying a lot of weight for a freshman and I think Sunday was a big growing step for him. Once again he rolled through the first two and then came the 3rd and some adversity. He kept battling and didn't let it go completely sideways, ended the inning, and what I think may bode well for his and the teams future is, he came out and got right back on track in the fourth. To me that was a big moment in his development and maturity as a starting D1 pitcher.

Segura for sure has a lot of responsibility foisted on him for a freshman and if we’re being fair has done about as well as we could ask on the whole. There’s competing for Friday starter potential there for sure in the next two years . I wasn’t trying to bust his chops so much as it was just the first thing I thought of. We’ve had more than one other do that this year, and we have eaten a bunch of injury issues which hasn’t helped. Still hoping we can clean up a little before playoff time.

It's almost like being the best team in the country is hard to do.
17 and 18 raised the bar so high, anything short of another championship is a failed season., in some people's minds.

Kmatz & May and then pray for delay? Segura will have a fine game on Sunday. I have no doubt. I'm pretty high on Segura. He's got good stuff, and he has the demeanor. He's gonna take his lumps, but I think the skies the limit.

We really need Hunter to get back to form. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. If he does, gives us options. Having Lattery back would be huge. We need inning eaters. He can do that.

Lattery was at the game last night in uniform and sweatshirt. Not sure why injured players would be traveling. Would be nice to get him back.
