If You Build It

Though I know we probably have close to zero chance of landing her, I saw that Lucy Olsen from Villanova is in the portal. She’s an amazing offensive player. Could a player like that be lured to a great coach who could help turn her into a great defensive player and giver her a shot at the Tournament by winning the WCC? Maybe. It is going to be interesting to see who we can successfully recruit. 

If you build it, they will come.
Until they get what they perceive is a better offer,
then they’ll leave.

That’s awesome. Unfortunately, it’s a year to year deal now so you have to build fast. And furious.

Here’s how I’d rebuild it. First, I would say the heck with this power four or power five mindset just get rid it. Second, I would recruit players, women’s basketball players who want to play at Oregon State University. Other words, people who want to be here in Corvallis. I wouldn’t concern myself with NIL or building a National Brand. I would just be who we are, a world-class educational place, a real college. I would change the mindset of the program from four years to two or three years. Just tell the girls you can graduate in two or three years here if yo work at it. 4 year students and grad-transfers are always welcomed! I’d make the developmental cycle faster by playing everybody lots of playing time. Refocus the goal from national championships to winning the WCC. If that brings us to the tournament great.
