At first given the number of portal tweets I've seen out of Daschel I thought it was another hit to the roster, but looks like Josiah Lake is now officially on scholarship! Congrats to the kid for earning it, he was definitely one of my favorite guys to watch this year.

Well, that’s good. I was hoping Tinkle resigned/quit.

Rumor has it that WT has been hanging out in Dixon looking for players.

One less scholarship available. Given to someone nobody apparently felt was worth one coming out of high achool.
Way to go, Tink.

Right because heaven forbid a kid take advantage of the opportunity given to him and earn it on the court. So Mike Hass should never have earned a scholarship either then? Because no one felt he was worth one out of high school right? Get a grip man, I can't imagine going through life that petty and resentful that this would ever be my first thought. Rather than appreciate what JL accomplished (or just not said anything and moved on) you somehow find a way to make it about Tinkle and disrespect one of the players as well? Yeah the criticism of the coach and program are warranted but there's plenty of that on this board already, get over it.

There was a 6’1” 150 pound kid that couldn’t get a scholarship anywhere that had to walk on to the team at Central Arkansas University some time back…. Scottie Pippen. Not saying Lake will be the next Pippen, but I think he would likely have been in our top 3-4 had everyone stayed. He could be “the guy” this year.

Don’t want to be perceived as a Tinkle Defender (I’m not), but I’m questioning how much basketball you watched this year if you don’t believe this kid deserves a scholly. IMO, he was the third best guard on the team behind Pope and Akanno. I think it’s a good move.

If you don’t offer a walk-on who averaged 15 mpg and was in the rotation most of last quarter of season a scholarship, you’re nuts. Especially with what the roster looks like now. That said, if he is “the guy” next season as one poster said he could be, better buckle up cuz first year in WCC is gonna be a rough ride.

Like Mike Hass. Like Eric Tuma. Like David Lucas. Like Jonathan Smith. Like probably 100s of OSU athletes over the years.

That said, if he is “the guy” next season as one poster said he could be, better buckle up cuz first year in WCC is gonna be a rough ride. I think he was one of our 2 best guards this season, I thought he was the most active much of the time he was on the court. This "unwanted" kid, on a per 40 minute basis, out rebounded, out assisted, out stole and under turnovered both Pope and Akanno during their time here (although this season only, Pope managed .3 higher in the assist category this season). On top of that, his 2pt and 3 pt shooting percentages were higher than either of them and his feet throw percentage was quite comparable to Pope's. I'm not saying he will definitely be better than either of them, but on a per minute basis he out performed both in everything but scoring, and the advanced stats show it. Give him an injury free offseason and I suspect he may be the kid running the offense unless Meithof is a special player and can handle the point. If Lake runs the point look for his assist stats and scoring to go up. He specifically is the least of my worries for next year at this point. I don't know that he'll be much less "the guy" than Pope was. Bilodeau was probably our hardest to immediately replace portal player ('cept for the fact it's tough to replace "size" - it'll be interesting to see if Tinkle can land at least a halfway serviceable post player nor that Ibekwe's gone).

Let's leave it at Lake deserved a scholly.
But, most know the old "if he played 40 minutes per" stat is bogus. Sure #s will increase if one plays more, but not in that ratio. Nor does their "effectiveness" stay constant.
Lake didn't get offered for a reason... last I saw heb was offered by Regis University and Eastern Arizona. He wasn't even signed at OSU until May after Krauss & Taylor left.
He received a scholarship because he was a hard worker, effective in very limited minutes, AND... OSU has extras to give and needs to keep whomever they can.
If the roster is going to be filled with "Lakes" OSU is in big trouble. They'll play hard, be coachable, but will finish in the bottom half of the WCC.

If he can, his scoring, assist and turnover stats will probably go up on a per 40 basis, his rebounds probably go down. The trick is the assist to turnover ratio, it was the best of the guards this year, but he didn't run point consistently. If he can't handle the point, a point is yet another top priority. Does OSU even have other walk-ons that actually played much to give a scholly to? Can't think of any. Seems to me we have to bring in 5-6 players just to fill our scholarships. They need to be capable players. The coaches have a lot of work ahead just to get to where they can field a mid-level WCC team.
