LOL.... from "There are no rules..." to "I know the rule good luck proving it..." Anyway, even the inept NCAA been proven it on a regular basis when they investigate. Added... "... prohibits an NIL entity from engaging in any contact, correspondence or other communication with or providing any benefits to a prospect, potential transfer or any individual associated with them, until the prospect signs a letter of intent, participates in summer activities or practices with the team, or enrolls at the school and attends classes." NIL "entity" can be an organization or an individual. If the "individual" is significantly associated with a school... large donor, on a any school related board... alumni, fund raising, Trustee, etc... it is also a separate university violation. Proof is simple... is the athlete in the portal and signed to a LOI? Practiced or attended classes? Is there a written contract? NCAA has and is investigating multiple schools on the basis of such rumors and phone calls to share info and set up meetings. Doesn't take much more than a phone log to see who made calls to who. I was being facetious when I said there are no rules. I just think there are a lot of people that aren’t following them.

There are lot of verbal agreements that don’t get executed until the player actually transfers. Look at the kid that got offered $13 million to go to Florida, committed and he realized they didn’t have the money.

It may simply boil down to spring practice showing Damian that the new offense isn’t as running back friendly as recent years, and he had his advisor explore options. Pure conjecture on my part, but we will see.

Hopefully, somebody hires a lawyer. Breach of a verbal contract is more difficult to prove than breach of a written contract, but you can still prove it. Jury question.

Martinez was one of the reasons we renewed season tickets. Now some of us may want a refund. Going to be hard to sell tickets without Martinez.

It's the hope that kills. At least we can be real about the situation now

The schools need to be working to empower the NCAA as much as legally possible when it comes to NIL rules enforcement. I know it's been easy to laugh at the NCAA's weakness but look at what starts happening the second it looks like it's weak enough to ignore. The NCAA is still working to enforce the rules but each school needs to do its part as well. IMO, if Martinez is indeed bailing, Oregon State should look into the situation as best as it can.

To complain, protest, and demand action after the fact does what? You win, to what end? You nuked your bell cow's best deal. Congrats. Now he's probably bitter, and most likely has a bunch of hamstring and soft tissue injuries until the offeror has a chance to do it right. It's a lose-lose deal. Plus, in case you're wondering, nobody in the NCAA cares about or is looking out for Oregon State.

I will add that Martinez might have started considering entering the portal because of the changes to the offense. It just seems like they are going to move away from the power running game to an extent and that might have been enough for him to want to go somewhere else. An offer of some sort (if it happened) could have been the nudge he needed.

The NCAA is still working to enforce the rules but each school needs to do its part as well. IMO, if Martinez is indeed bailing, Oregon State should look into the situation as best as it can. Especially since it punishes the offenders and not the players. I was always leery of any NCAA probe as it is the player that is the easiest to sanction. However, with all the creeps out their taking advantage of players with "verbal" promises let the probes focus on the collectives, boosters, and schools. None here are naïve. We all know "deals" have been made under the table since the beginning of competitive sports... $, merch, "ringers", etc. But, we also can hope the rules that do exist will be enforced. However, if a kid can be bought, they do not really want to be at a school. There will be another RB that will excite us... been a pretty recurring theme. The weird dichotomy is that at first fans praise the players that resist the money, then are surprised when they take it. MAYBE, just maybe they are such "saints" after all... maybe the $ they refused was not there?? Maybe it just didn't meet the level to test their ethical/moral compass?? Again... I'm a OSU fan... and one of the players who chose to be here. Eff the ones who chose not to... I do not waste my breath/energy on them. I guess if I had my "dream" scenario come true the "haves" of 40-60 football teams go their own way and form some semi-pro, so called "super conference". While the NCAA reorganizes, backfills the areas where they failed, and the "rest" play NCAA football. The big boys will not have the inventory to fill all the TV slots or bowl games so there will be new contracts to be had. Let the big boys hammer it out with one another and see how much it will cost them to schedule the NCAA teams to fill their schedules. Meanwhile hoops, baseball, etc remain as is. Maybe in my lifetime?? I plan on 90+, so??

DM is a one-trick pony and no new deal will change his prospects of actually making an NFL roster. My opinion of course...

Not highly confident that he will be a star but you need to be special to reach that level in the NFL. But yeah, going to another school isn't going to help him get to the NFL. I think he's already done that at OSU. I'm just saying if he thinks there's more carries and more money out there...

Not sure he’s exactly a one trick pony, but with the other kids sticking around and Jam coming back (not to mention the offensive tweaks that are coming), maybe he can foresee another year of splitting carries ahead and wants to go where he can be THE featured back. A bunch of the top NCAA yardage guys had 50-100 more carries than he did.
