MBABeav mentioned previously that our championship runs had players that stepped up and became leaders in the clubhouse. So far this year, I haven't seen it on this team. I was a little worried to start the season that Bazzana wouldn't be the leader, even though he should be the guy. This is starting to look more like a team that past Beaver teams feasted on and that worries me. I think this is where we need Mitch to step up and challenge a player(s) to be that guy.

Looks like they're trying to spell 'team' with a capital 'I'.

And all this time I thought we were 24-4, despite losing our starting CF, RF and 3B to injuries for varying stretches of the season. Think what we could be if we weren't a rudderless, leaderless team.

A couple of guys on this team need to watch the original version of The Bad News Bears. We've got our own Kelly and Tanner.

Travis is one of the team leaders. It is total bulls%#t that there are no leaders. Things can get heated between teammates on any team especially after a couple of rough games.

Kwan and Grenier were roommates and good friends as well as team leaders. Near the end of their final season, Grenier called for a very high pop-up just out of the infield. Camped under it. Kwan came all the way in and took the ball. Grenier let Kwan know in the dugout as well as on the field NO. s%#t happens. Better to air it out and not simmer.

I guess I missed something. What happened with Turley and Bazzana?

There are different types of leadership, a team can have a few different types and still be missing another type. There are guys who quietly lead by example, guys who pump guys up and are encouraging. Sometimes you need a guy who is kinda a prick and willing to dress someone down, almost a sheriff. From the outside it looks like that’s the type of leadership we are missing.

No leaders on this team? Really? We are 24-4 and have had to overcome probably the worst injury riddled season I can remember for Beaver baseball. We have scored over ten runs a game three straight games and just beat a team that swept Cal last weekend. I just don’t buy that this team lacks leadership. Where is this idea coming from? Am I missing something?

I guess I missed something. What happened with Turley and Bazzana? Pop fly in right, both converged, calling for it. Bazzana eventually stopped, but didn’t make an attempt to catch the ball. Turley was blocked by Bazzana from being able to catch the ball after Bazzana had stopped. It lead to a run.

Am I missing something? You can be a very good team and not have good leadership. We need a guy to initiate a players only meeting when things seem out of sync, to keep guys loose when the moment is tense, and to confront a player or players when they make coachable mistakes. You don't have to be the best player to be the leader, but it helps. I looked at games like Arkansas, and saw an entire team press with Hagen on the mound. We needed a leader to get the team to relax. ASU game looked disorganized. USC looked disinterested and disorganized. This team is good enough to make it to Omaha on talent alone. They are currently not good enough to win in Omaha. That doesn't mean they can't improve. To beat the best teams, you need more than talent alone. It appears from the outside that we are winning just because we are the most talented of the teams we play. I easily could be completely wrong, and I'm not privy to some of the inner workings on the team. I'm basically just watching body language and how the team responds to each other.

Speak for yourself. I see it differently. That ball was a RF ball all the way and if I was Turley there is no way in hell, I'm Not confronting Bazz.

I admit that I don’t completely understand your post, but I’m intrigued with why, if you were Turley, you wouldn’t confront Bazz, especially if you see it as a RF ball all the way. That’s not leadership; that’s bullying.

It is career-ending possibility present.
