I don't know who the leader(s) on the team are or frankly if there are any. Sometimes it seems this team acts that when they show up on the field the other team will simply wilt. Wasn't really impressed with the Utah series and then of course this series. Something needs to change quickly.

I read through the end of yesterday's thread, and I saw a lot of nonsense about how the team needed to get chewed out. I remember Arkansas' head coach talking to his team after Game 2, and I thought, that's stupid. They are the second-best team in the country. Why the hell would you need to talk to them for? You are just as likely as to destroy a vulnerable team, as opposed to getting the guys to rally. You want to do something? Don't let the media into the locker room. Anyway, I heard Mitch chewing out the guys. #2 in the country. Lost three games all year. And I thought, that's stupid. They are the #2 team in the country. Why the hell would you need to talk to them for? You are just as likely as to destroy a vulnerable team, as opposed to getting the guys to rally. You want to make a speech, make it the next day, when everyone has had a chance to chase out the cobwebs. Everyone's fresh. Everyone's looking for a little motivation. Stupid coaching. So how do you get an underperforming team to play up to the #2 ranking? This is a serious question, not sarcastic. Or, are they O V E R R A T E D !! Which seems likely after witnessing this FUBAR .. Tomorrow is another day, but I wouldn't put a nickel on us winning after these 2 games! |

Yesterday was historically bad and losing a series sucks. End of the day it's baseball and no team is perfect.
I just hope we have Caraway, MMD and Kasper for the post season. Also hope we have some help back at pitcher with Lattery, Palmer and Scott returning at some point. Really feel the loss of Jimenez during these tight games, even as a frosh he was an impressive stopper.
Not many teams are going to play as well as we can with three opening day starters out on offense. Based on what we expected were down Jimenez, DeCreamer, Palmer, Lattery, and Scott off the top of my head. Hard to expect great pitching with that much talent and that many innings missing. I still think we hit 45 wins before the regional.

At the end of the day these are kids, and it's baseball. We got punched in the mouth Thurs, and did not recover yesterday. USC obviously gained a ton of confidence. My hope is these kinds of embarrassing losses does more to recommit the team, and dig deeper. If not, well no Omaha....hell, no Pac 12 championship even. Great thing is there's a lot more baseball to prove one way or the other.

They have to get back to their capabilities, we'll see after today. I'm betting it was an awakening that they can't just "show up" and their opponent shakes in fear. Hopefully a hard lesson. The Beavs entered the Trojan series basically needing to go 21-11 to basically clinch a top 8 host spot. Well, we used up two of the losses. 21-9 still basically clinches a top 8 host spot. Oregon State just needs to bear down and win the finale. It would also help a ton, if all three Gonzaga games rain out. You used "bear down" when you should've used "fight on!" I always hated "Fight On!" Unless Oregon State plays USC in the Pac-12 Tournament, this concludes me caring about "Fight On!" |

In football, ranking matters, though with the new playoff scheme it matters less. But hosting is the goal in college baseball, not being number 1. Second, something went seriously awry on Friday. I think the team was playing tight from the loss the day before…too much overthinking. Trying too hard so that nothing came naturally. My point is that the loss was uncharacteristic of the team. It doesn’t have to be the defining moment of this year’s squad; it could be just an aberration on the way to Omaha. Or it could keep them in their heads second-guessing their identity. That’s why we watch. But these men have the talent to be number 2 or even number 1, dog piling in Omaha. Whether they can manifest this potential or not depends on them and their coaches. In short, no, I would say that they are overrated. |

Your post above this I mostly agree. My only caveat has little to do with Friday however it is a symptom. As of now I'm not seeing an Omaha pitching staff. |
