Cobb was a great guy. What anti-Cobb hit piece are you talking about? Cobb was far less of a sleazeball than Rose. You obviously haven't read up on him.... I have. He seemed to like to play the heel as a player. But he was a friend to almost all players that he both played with and against, if not at the time, after the fact. Championed integration of the MLB, when some tried to stop it. A lot of anti-Cobb propaganda, though, which makes me ask where you are getting your information.

I'm no expert on MLB bylaws and player clauses, but... I'm pretty sure any, ANY, involvement with gambling, bookmakers, etc is a auto termination. So, the change of the initial story maybe a lame, and late attempt to keep the "bank" open. I would sure seem so. Occam's razor..... Occam is trending on the Benny's House hot list.

Didn’t play long enough to be in the Pete Rose wing in Cooperstown. Pete would’ve been in by now, if he wasn’t such an asshole. New Pete Rose biography out, review of the book apple.news/AFjInXeePRfy-RopLXke-og

Sounds like a pretty sketchy story then recantation?? Wondering if there is much much more to this. Why would a friend/interpreter have access to your accounts? No mention he was in charge of any finances. And, Otani seems far from being out of the loop or stupid, as $4.5 mil is not something that would just slip by. Now with the investigation uncovering this, maybe Shohei was keeping it under wraps. But, now to say it is theft?? Has all the making of a "fall guy" being paid off to take the rap and the heat off. This will not go away soon if there is more... So today Ohtani talks and says this: “Ippei has been stealing money from my account and has been telling lies,” Ohtani said. “I never bet on sports or have willfully sent money to the bookmaker.” Mizuhara originally told ESPN last week that Ohtani had paid his gambling debts at Mizuhara’s request. After the statement from Ohtani’s attorneys saying the player was a victim of theft, ESPN says Mizuhara changed his story Wednesday and claimed Ohtani had no knowledge of the gambling debts and had not transferred any money to bookmakers. “Ippei told to the media and to the representatives that I, on behalf of a friend, paid off debt,” Ohtani said. “Upon further questioning, it was revealed that it was actually Ippei who ... was in debt and told my representatives that I was paying off those debts. All of this has been a complete lie.” Ohtani said he had no knowledge of MIzuhara’s gambling until the media inquiries while he and the team were in South Korea for a two-game series against the San Diego Padres. “Until a couple of days ago, I didn’t know this was happening,” Ohtani said. Mizuhara was fired by the Dodgers last week. Ohtani, who signed a record 10-year, $700 million contract to join the Dodgers, indicated he wants to clear his name and disassociate himself from Mizuhara. He said he did not bet on any sports, did not ask anyone to do it for him and has had no dealings with a bookmaker or paid off anyone’s gambling debts. “I have never gone through a bookmaker to bet on sports and was never asked to assist betting payment for anyone else,” he said. So basically he has covered all the bases here to keep his contract and reputation intact if what he is saying is true. Ippei was supposedly his "best" friend in addition to being his interpreter. So I ask you guys---Who among you has a best friend that has unfiltered access to your bank accounts? Who among you do not check your bank accounts at least weekly in these fraudulent times? Who among you has a "best" friend that does not know you gamble-(if you gamble big money on sporting events)---ahh---none of you---just what I thought! I'm inclined to believe what George thinks and says above: "Has all the making of a "fall guy" being paid off to take the rap and the heat off."----What do you guys think?

I think it is equally likely a best friend, who himself is not rich and popular good advantage of a situation. we have see that over and over again in history, friends, family, parents, siblings... all close people take advantage of a rich person and effectively embezzle from them. Or.. Yeah, best friend is gettin' paid to take a fall. even odds. (har).

It appears to be a translation thing, but I hate, when people limit themselves to the disjunctive, when the conjunctive is so much worse.

It appears to be a translation thing, but I hate, when people limit themselves to the disjunctive, when the conjunctive is so much worse. Everybody needs a fall guy Definitely curious how it all plays out. Could absolutely see the fall guy angle. But also could see Ohtani being completely naive and trusting. So far Ippei has lied about his resume and education. Seems like a trend. If that's the case, he wouldn't be the first or last athlete to be taken advantage of. I mean, Baker Mayfield is going after his family after $12M went "missing". Tim Duncan was conned out of millions. Meanwhile, new crazy gambling investigation in the NBA. Buckle up!
