Sounds like a pretty sketchy story then recantation?? Wondering if there is much much more to this. Why would a friend/interpreter have access to your accounts? No mention he was in charge of any finances. And, Otani seems far from being out of the loop or stupid, as $4.5 mil is not something that would just slip by. Now with the investigation uncovering this, maybe Shohei was keeping it under wraps. But, now to say it is theft?? Has all the making of a "fall guy" being paid off to take the rap and the heat off. This will not go away soon if there is more...

Two problems though, the federal investigation of the bookmaker and MLB not needing the highest paid player ever involved in a gambling controversy before the season even begins. Looks like preemptive damage control to me, but what do we know at this point...... A look at Ohtani's morals clauses might go a long ways in shedding some light.

I'm no expert on MLB bylaws and player clauses, but... I'm pretty sure any, ANY, involvement with gambling, bookmakers, etc is a auto termination. So, the change of the initial story maybe a lame, and late attempt to keep the "bank" open.

Didn’t play long enough to be in the Pete Rose wing in Cooperstown.

At the same time, it's kind of insane that we basically hear things like: Coming up next on Sportscenter - after these 3 commercials from Draft Kings and Fan Duel, we turn it over to our ESPNBETS Analyst for our rundown on this week's March Madness point spreads to monitor! Other crazy tidbit (to me) is that Ippei was apparently betting big on soccer. So people really do bet on soccer. lol
