Some news from today re: the Pac-2 and the CFP deal:
Pac-12 statement: "The Pac-12 is pleased the College Football Playoff will continue to grow as and incredible sporting event for our student-athletes and fans. The new agreement to continue on ESPN platforms provides excellent opportunities for Oregon State and Washington State football programs to succeed on the biggest stage in college sports."
Jayathi Murthy:
"An improved distribution of CFP revenues has been agreed upon to better reflect the excellence of OSU's and WSU's athletics programs and the strength and support of our alumni and fans..."

Yeah, this is great but also really interesting as far as the numbers and how it got negotiated. And the fact that it goes to 2028. |

I am still putting my bets on an ACC collapse and another wave of realignment that will include OSU and WSU finding their way into a conference by virtue of some sort of dominos falling.
Either we collect ACC cast offs, or when Clemson and FSU wedge themselves into a bigger conference, we get the teams iced out.
I am not sure, but I think sooner than later another major re-org hits.

CFP with a high school debate move. They offer 360k ( a ridiculous amount) when we throw a fit they bump it up to 3.6 million. Disregarding the fact we were getting 6.0 million before and the pot has expanded. They threw us scraps and we gobbled them up like a starving dog. At some point we need to see who’s got who by the balls. There is anti-trust, restraint of trade , monopolies in play.

What I can't find is what the compensation is for an independent or quasi independent if they make the cfp? I think that is the justification for lowballing independents, they don't have to share the direct payment with their conference??? idk |

The CFP threw us some bigger crumbs hoping we would shut up and go away. |

I think the Pac-12 "negotiated" a larger amount just in case the two schools have to extend their independent status for a year or so and now the safety net is $3.6 million. Either that won't come into play at all because OSU and WSU get into or form a conference before then or they have some reason to think that something is going to happen between 2026 and 2028. I do wonder what the Pac-12 negotiated with to get a significantly better (obviously not great) deal so quickly. |

As I recall, the main obstacle to reaching an agreement was over format, revenue share, etc, and OSU/WSU(WSU has a seat at the table) not willing to accept anything but a serious slice. |
