Before the last game I figured (and I would have guessed every other fan) that Adlee and Martha were headed for the portal. But you guys were all stunned huh? That's...weird.

One thing Adlee did not learn at OSU was how to write a clear, concise letter. GO BEAVS!!

"but why didn't she say why she left?" That's probably why I said that.

Yep, sorry, I totally missed the posts about Adlee's post here and thought you were talking about the reaction when she first announced she was leaving. But I still say most of us were not surprised because of the playing time issue. And I think people are asking why she left now specifically because she didn't address it.

How could Adlee, or anyone else for that matter, not believe she'd have gotten plenty of playing time after most of the starters left? Personally, I think she just wanted to go home and everything else was just an excuse, although I do appreciate she had positive things to say about the coaches, her experience at OSU, and Beaver Nation.

There was no indication from Rueck by the end of the season that he thought Adlee's game was a good fit for what he wanted. She would still have to "prove herself" on a team going into the WCC. She chose to go to OSU over Texas Tech in the first place. All of a sudden, she wants to go home? IMO, it was lack of PT, combined with the drop to the WCC.

Honestly, if it was just Martha and Adlee that departed, we would probably all be more at peace with their move. In Adlee's defense, in my mind SR was erratic with her minutes and persisted inordinately with a fairly non-productive starter at her position ahead of ever trying her out in a manner that would have left her with a more positive future prognosis of her potential as a Beaver this coming season. I also felt this way about Dom for more than half the season.
Thanks to the other 6 departures, however, I am jaded by missives such as hers - my first reaction is - huh, she needed a new post in her social media stream, a letter that really doesn't help anything - not clear SR is under attack for his coaching acumen or position and needs her endorsement, and after saying nice things about him, she gives herself a chance to say nice things about her new landing spot. Just a on-brand letter meant to advance her cause, because it does nothing for us Beavers for whom she has such a fond place in her heart.....
Thanks, fleeing stars, NIL, NCAA, transfer portal, conference realignment, social media and the monetization of everything for making me cynical about what might be a very heartfelt statement from Adlee.
Go Beavers!

The Elite 8 was a beautiful thing - no doubt. And masterful coaching by SR to get us there, no doubt. Great team accomplishment. But as a player, along with team success, I would also wonder about my individual position (and conference affiliation/visibility). Which brings us to why some of the Elite 8 Runaways might have run away.
Adlee, Lily and Dom got to see someone start at their position every game, who in the 8 losses this calendar year (yes, complete cherry picking), averaged 21 minutes/game while shooting 4-35 in those games. Put up 0-fers in 5 of those 8 losses. Again, just for example, Dom had better seasonal scoring, boarding, assist and steal averages than that starter while shooting better from everywhere on the floor other than the FT line - but got to the line 30 more times - and all of this while playing 4 min/g less. That starter is coming back - any reason to think Dom would displace the starter? I am of the opinion SR favors "structured" guards over "freelancers" - which might be great for the team, but what if I am one of the "freelancers"? Throw in Kentucky as one of the most innovative at playing the NIL game in foreign countries (called "passive income"), and maybe transferring (from an individual point of view) for someone like Dom starts looking more attractive.
NOTE - I picked Dom because I think she is a real star in the making.....and a real loss. Adlee just never got consistent minutes this season, for whatever reason(s).
Go Beavers!

It will be interesting to see how this next team creates offense.
