Um...they signed up to play in a major conference, which turned out to be THE major conference this year for women's basketball. And now..poof! That conference is gone.
I bleed orange like most all of you, and I hate to see them leave, but it's not hard to figure out why. NIL aside, if the PAC-12 had stayed intact (thanks a lot, idiot commissioner!), we would not be seeing this apparent mass exodus. They did not sign up to play in a lesser conference - they signed up to play in the big time - and did. Now they want that again. Seriously, can you blame them?

Why? They've also imploded. Their top 2 players have entered the portal, and that after a disastrous season. Not sure why anyone would want to go there at this point. Graves is likely out after next season. My guess is the first phone call UO will make is to the former OSU and UO assistant coach and current head coach at TCU Mark Campbell. That would make sense. Got kind of an incomplete grade this year due to so many players being out injured. Will be interesting to see how he does in Year 2.
Off topic, but kind of related, Sedona Prince was granted ANOTHER year of eligibility. She's part of the 2018 class. Many of her contemporaries will be in their 3rd year in the WNBA. Maybe the NCAA will give her 10 years and she can come back to Oregon with Campbell.

He took Sac St to the tournament in his 2nd year and they were off to a 14-0 start at TCU this season before they got wiped out by injuries. He is largely credited with recruiting the Sabrina, Sabaly and Hibbard class at Oregon.

Of course it's a sinking ship. Would you expect anything different?

Of course it's a sinking ship. Would you expect anything different? So why board a ship that is taking on water? Plenty of other schools in P4 conferences that are in much better shape.

They did beat Nebraska but other than that it was pretty much road kill. In my mind he still has some left to prove coaching at a higher level.

She wouldn't trade her 2 years here for the world, but she's going to trade her next 2 years here for . . . what? Something more than the world? And her teammates that she loves so dearly and will be her best friends forever . . . Did forever end today when she deserted them? This whole portal thing sickens me, and not just what is happening to OSU. The number nationwide is approaching 1,100, 25% of those with eligibility left. They're leaving powerhouses like Tarleton and Queen's College of Charleston. Who the hell is supposed to pick them up from there? But off they go. I don't know what I'm going to find to replace college sports in general, and OSU women's basketball specifically, but I'm sure gonna try.

I agree in general about the portal stuff but in Adlee's case it's a matter of playing time. I thought she was probably going to hit the portal even if nobody else did and I don't blame her. Too bad. And I will add that anyone questioning her about this should go back and watch her while she was on the bench. Always up and cheering her teammates. Never pouting or sitting with shoulders slumped.

All of the players who left and all of them that will leave, probably have lost their best chance to win a championship. Winning is tough much less getting to the final four. The team would have been setup to make a big run no matter what conference they were playing in the next few years. It would be nice to know what they are thinking. I am only talking about the ones who played a lot. The ones with little to no playing time, I can understand why they entered the transfer portal.

So, it sounds like we can expect Beers transfer announcement tomorrow.
I do wonder with Adlee, if she is looking for more minutes, with the top 4 scorers transferring, wouldn't she be in line for more playing time if she stayed? Makes me wonder if there is more to it...
I do wonder if and when the starters or most of the team met together and talked about leaving after this season. My guess is they have known this was coming for weeks or more likely months. There was the article before the tournament by ESPN about the uncertainty of OSUs roster after the season. I naively dismissed it, figuring they would want to return together for another great season. I doubt Rueck is surprised by any of this. It has got to be a rough time for the coaching staff.

I will stipulate if some of them transfer to UCONN or South Carolina, they will have a better chance to win it all. Otherwise, their chances would have been better staying.

Oh that's great. Prince is granted almost lifetime NCAA eligibility. However, Kat Tudor got totally screwed out of a year of additional eligibility in which (a) the Beavers would have certainly be a sweet 16 contender and possibly also cost her a well deserved shot at a WNBA career.

I think with Adlee the lack of playing time was more due to her not really being a great fit for Rueck's system (at least in Rueck's mind). So no sense in hanging around. I think the WCC is the main issue at hand. My guess is that every player entering the portal who had anything close to significant playing time will wind up in a power conference. That includes Adlee. If Hunter and Beers leave as well, it will make me take pause about Rueck's inability to keep an Elite Eight team together.
